The Polak Decision?
« on: April 22, 2010, 12:18:17 AM »
2 questions:

A) Was taking Polak as a mature age rookie the right move?

B) Was elevating him to the Senior List the right move before Round 1?

------------------------------------------------------------

A = Maybe too soon to tell but would need some improvement to be retained next year you would think. GP isn't getting any younger.
B = Maybe I don't know all the facts but it was a horrible move. If he played round 1 to then be dropped to Coburg for 10 weeks you'd understand they elevated him for Round 1. Why have we elevated a player that since being elevated has not been picked for 4 senior games? Gourdis is close and with McGuanes suspension and Thurstys injury could well have played against Melbourne.

No I don't think so, he was always worth the gamble and I am sorry but it was the humane way to treat him. At least if things don't work out the RFC can hold their heads high and say at least we gave him a go. He can also leave the game satisfied that he gave it his best shot after nearly dying. He should be proud that he even made it back this far.

B) Was elevating him to the Senior List the right move before Round 1?

No, he should never have been elevated based on a couple of good games in the pre-season. We should still be waiting and maybe one of the other fellows could put their hand up soon. Maybe Contin or Gourdis??

In the back of my mind something is telling me the rule says we could not wait.  It has to be done by round 1 or we forfeit that chance to use a spot for a rookie.  Might be wrong but for some reason it comes to mind.

well I was sucked into believing that Polly had a genuine role to play in aiding JR and MM with a big body in the front half to do some bullocking work and take a grab...all makes sense...to see us being obliterated I50 and the pressure on MM cruelling his ability to break free...it has been a nonsense to have upgraded him if there was in fact a rethink. we would have been better p[laced with Goo on the list right now

A) No, we needed to use all picks on players for the future.

B) It was the right move for Cameron to justify keeping him on the list, however Hardwick hasn't played along.

Cameron kept him (and Gilligan) despite there being better options in the rookie draft.
Cameron elevated him as the List Manager before round 1.
Hardwick has refused to select him in the senior team.
