You guys need to check yr history.
Carlton's cheating was in 2001 and 2002. Jackson was CEO.
Anything before that Dimi was at the AFLPA.
He became CEO in 2003. Ess were fined 80k or something like that for a breach. it wasnt a big deal breach. This Storm thing is huge. People are gonna go down for fraud. It was systematic.
There isnt a relevant comparison or an issue u can whack dimi with.
You're right CR, Dimwittyou didn't become CEO until 2003. It was Jackson who handed down the penalties for Carlton's cheating in 2001 and 2002.
However, just a few points:
1. In 2001 Carlton were fined $125,000 and draft picks for breaching the salary cap that year.
2. In 2002 they were fined $987,000 and further draft picks for systematically breaching the salary cap between 1998 and 2001. My point being that their cheating went back a lot further than just 2001 and 2002 as you state.
How far back did their cheating go? Well in 1994 they were fined $50,000 for minor breaches. I'd wager that their 1995 premiership was not completely above board.
The salary cap was introduced in 1987, also a Carlton premiership year. With big bad John Elliot at the helm back then, thumbing his oversized proboscis at the lefty socialist AFL trying to kill free enterprise, and drag everybody down to the same level, you can bet your life that a few members of the Carlton side that year found themselves registered employees of Carlton and United Breweries.
I'd love to see the AFL lighten their trophy cabinet of a couple of stolen cups.
