Billy Slater to AFL?
« on: April 24, 2010, 11:01:53 PM »
John Ralph on Ch 10's Fifth Quarter said there's talk of Billy Slater switching codes next year. For some reason mentioned Richmond and whether we'd go for it and fit him in the salary cap.

Slater is a gun, I'd love to have him, but he's probably too old for us

100% has to be looked at.

A) Give a further 1% reason to rock up to the footy
B) No loss anything with potential to gain.

I'd rather see a Slater play who runs the lines can put an opposition player in hospital lightning quick and is impossible to baulk instead of every single player we have over the age of 24.
Go Tigers!

TTID, sorry I can't find a link on the TEN website. Maybe we were mentioned because (a) we're Richmond who sells papers and (b) we'll have one of the first rookie picks if we finish last.

They must have read my post in another thread on this.  ;D

In all seriousness, Slater is an elite, highly skilled sportsman. Your chances of getting someone like him to adapt from Rugby leauge would better than that of Gaelic Footballers.

He knows how to "break the lines" and could teach most AFL players a thing or two about tackling.

If he could be taught how to kick and handball properly you would have a more than handy player, with plenty of attributes such as leadership, big game experience/performance.

Any club would remiss in not at least considering the idea.

The biggest knocks would be his age -27 this year, but would still have 4-5 years left in him possibly- and whether he could build up a tank big enough to play Aussie Rules

Nor are your ways my ways,” says the Lord.

“For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are my ways higher than your ways,
And my thoughts than your thoughts."

Make great clearance players some of em.  Hard to tackle, strong as ox's and great burst speed, just a bit low on endurance in comparison to Afl players.

Already has one. He'd be in the Top 5% for stamina (and probably speed too) in the AFL.

YOU GUYS ARE CHASING THE WRONG ATHLETE FROM RUGBY LEAGUE!

The bloke an AFL club should chase is

ISRAEL FOLAU
DOB: April 3 1989 - making him just 22
195cm tall or 6'5
and runs like the Wind.

Hes the bloke an AFL club should try and get!

Moved to QLD to go back closer to his family as he is a very strict Mormon, also needs to do some sort of pilgrimage I think at some stage.
Greg Inglis is the one, he's already in Melbourne, kicks well, marks well, as fast a better all around athlete than Folau
