Tigers 'a number of years' from Cat level

ON THE RECEIVING end of a 108-point drubbing from Geelong, Richmond coach Damien Hardwick says it will "take a number of years" before the Tigers can reach the Cats' level.

Speaking post-match after Sunday's loss at Skilled Stadium, Hardwick was frustrated by his side's efforts and said his team has "still got a long way to go".

"I'm disappointed to lose every week - make no qualms about that. It's probably the first time I'm disappointed in all four quarters, from our point of view," he said.

"I didn't think we offered a fight to Geelong at any stage. In saying that, they are a bloody good side - they're a side that's going to challenge again and quite possibly run away with it again.

"So we've still got a fair way to go, but the thing we probably can take out of it is that's the level we've got to get to and it's going to take a number of years. But it's just a step forward for us every time we take that field against a quality side."

Hardwick said Geelong was far superior in development, particularly in the midfield, which made it difficult for Richmond to compete.

"Their bigger bodied players like Cameron Ling and even Joel Selwood … they're just solid individuals and our boys got buffeted out of the way. We had to put [Shane] Tuck back in there, [Dean] Polo and [Alex] Rance … so we could actually compete on a clearance level," he said.

"You're shuffling chairs on the Titanic to catch up, but we couldn't manufacture anything."

Next round, Richmond travels to AAMI Stadium, where it will meet Adelaide - the only other winless team in the competition. And Hardwick is optimistic about his team's chances.

"We go in every game thinking we can win. Some people might call that unrealistic, but you don't play footy not to win. We'll approach the game exactly the same as we did this week and hopefully with a better result," he said.

I have a question. Hardwick mentions bigger bodied players.
Why recruit and play the likes of Nahas, Nason and Edwards then.
Who are clearly not up to it.
Add Rance and Dea and basically you play 5 players short each week,
Now I know that Nason kicked 2 goals, but he has no defence and his game is riddled with mistakes.
And he cant lay a tackles or stop oppostion players, way too small

All I can say to Dimma is  "GAWD I HOPE NOT!"

And here's another tip dont go i "thinking" you can win, go in "believing" you can win. There is a massive difference IMHO

Why blame Hardwick if the recruiters arent up to it? The guy got the job- his first job in AFL senior coaching at a rabble of a club with a rabble culture thats been poo for 3 decades and you wanna hang him for the efforts of the recruiters. Common Jacko you gotta at least be fair. Hardwick had very little say in recruiting last year, I imagine it will be different this time around!

Hold on a minute
He had a big say in the recuits
And who picks the team each week.
How on earth does Rance and Dea get a game. Dea hasnt had a kick for 3 weeks :banghead
Rather have Matty White and McMahon than these 2.
And why play out best on baller in D50 ( Lids )
He is killing Lids as a player.
DONT STICK UP FOR HARDWICK.
Also Farmer down forward :banghead
And to further prove that Hardwick has little idea,
We are getting flogged at half time and guess what, the same six F50 players that started the game, start in the sam postions in the third quarter
NOW THATS BAD !

What worries me especially with DH is,he speaks about the Game Plan and implementing it on a young inexperienced list but to date the "Game Plan" is a paper Dragon,if not for the fact alone it doesn't exist, based on the principal it has never been fulfilled.

It very possible that there are alternative "Game Plans" that would better suit the current list. These would be in the artillery of any professional coaching panel but from where i sit,it ain't in ours.

I see no sign of coaching thus far in season 2010.
It must be all done at training...............

I cant see how he had a big say on players like Dea and Nason and Taylor ... those types of decisions are made by Jackson, Cameron and co.

Rance and Dea get games because 1) our team is poo and the coach has to shift chairs on the titanic so players like Rance  get games, Dea is probably getting games coz the coach doesnt want to destroy the kids confidence.

Wanting White and McMahon back is a joke Jacko and you know it!

Lids of half back is there because we have no one - absolutely no one who can provide drive of half back or deliver the footy- who do you want to provide drive- NEWMAN lol or Moore lol...common Jacko!

Farmer had a go up forward, ran through the lines once and kicked a great goal from 65... why not give him a go up forward, the game was shot anyway!

Final point - Players are being made to play same position so they can learn the basics, if they dont know the basics of footy- like kicking it properly then what can any coach do. Hardwicks been screwed by the list given to him and by recruits who arent up to it. Thats all!

and even beyond he coaches,
any group of sprtsmen playing a preofessional code of football for wages should have a degree of preofessionalism about them along with pride and the aqbility to play as a team.

These fools CAN NOT play like a team for some ungodly unknwn reason.

So what if ur in the bottom team - ur in it and are judged as either passenger or engine.
We got no engines

Hardwick is screwed by his lack of game plan.
Players dont know whether to handball or kick as first option.
There are some real basic issues

God could be coaching us, he could have the best game plan in the world, and we would still be winless. We have the worst list that has ever been put together in the history of the RFC. Thats why we're stuffed!

In 2013 we will start to see some sort of improvement from this list assuming some of the picks we have from the 09 draft and the upcoming compromised drafts make it.

If not then we can count the wins we have on both our hands till the end of 2012.
