Demetriou worries about Tigers
CAROLINE WILSON
May 4, 2010

While the AFL will not guarantee a repeat next season of the opening game of the year that Richmond and Carlton have played for the past three years, Demetriou said the Tigers' lack of competitiveness would not be harshly punished in 2011's draw.

So were not playing the opening game any more? if so.. sooo unfair  :-\ :-\

Caro on 3aw tonight
« Reply #17 on: May 04, 2010, 08:46:44 PM »
Caro was on 3aw tonight before 7pm with Healy and Russell....

* Caro spoke to Demetriou yesterday. Andy D said Richmond hasn't approached the AFL about help and he believed it would set a bad precendent anyway.

* Caro asked what would Richmond have to do if it did want to help from the AFL?

   - The Tigers would have to show they are using innovation in their recruiting. Nason from the SANFL for example.

   - They would have to show they have a proper recruitment structure in place at the Club. No point giving them extra picks if they just waste them again.

   - They would have to win less than 5 games in each of the next two years.

* Scotty Clayton was never going to Richmond despite it being claimed in the media at the time.

* Richmond is the only club never to receive a first pick despite finishing last. Carlton got that pick after finishing last the previous year and then less than 5 wins the following year.

* A caller rang saying he was sick of Caro continually bashing the Club. She said she did have a go at past admins, coaches last night on Footy Classified but she is trying to help us receive help.

Fair or not reality is this

If I was one of the the TV networks who as a combined group are pouring $780 million into the game via the current TV rights deal I would want a game that is close to launch the season. Sadly the RFC performances of the past 2 season openers hasn't given that. Coupled with our current dismal form doesnt make us a very attractvie proposition at all

I would love for the club to keep it but at the moment, where we are at means I honestly don't think we deserve it. We need to win some games and at least be competitive in our losses to make us appear to be attractive to TV. And TV will determine (rightly or wrongly) if we keep this game

But we Draw the crowds?

Yeah we do. So do other teams

But if they scheduled C'Wood -v- Carlton, St Kilda -v- C'wood, Essendon -v- Carlton or Essendon -v- St Kilda it would a draw a crowd too.

The AFL can get the crowd. But TV wants a "decent" game. What we've dished up the last 2 seasons has hurt us big time. What we dished up on Sunday has done us no favours either.

Crowds are great but when you are spending over a billion dollars you'll have demands and if those demands suggest no Tigers b/c we are not competitive and therefore will result in a decline in viewere decline in tv advertising for that timeslot then the AFL will then step in and adjust the draw to ensure they will make money in the longrun whilst the tv network gets its renumeration by having the most available adds on at that time because the tv audience will be sufficient enough.

Bombers have pennies in the bank thanks to Sheeds promotion and their efforts in the last 30 years.

Unfortunantely what do we have to hang our hat on since 1982?

This is what I have been trying to say regardless of our past yet again we are the first club to not recieve the priority early picks and the No.1 pick. Wern't we also the first club to not of recieved pick 1 when they changed the rules a few years ago about winning less than 5 games in two years??? Didn't we actually finish last but only recieved pick 2 because the team above us (was it the Blues) had finished with winning less than 5 games in two years?? That was the first time that rule was introduced and we copped the bad end of that deal.

We got Deledio first pick in 2004 a Priority Pick

2007 we got shafted by carltons tanking.

We should try and keep losing, do it properly this time like hawthorn and st kilda did, collingwood have done it too but only the one year 2002 if i remember correctly.  With a draft you need to make sure you lose and lose big for at least two years maybe 3.

correct!!!

pretty sure it come down to the "KRUZER CUP" in famous round 22 game. where they severely tanked. Fev on the bench in the last IIRC

Whilst we have Cotch at this point in time, Kruzer is streets ahead of him at this point in their careers.

Kruzer will be one of the best ruckman of all time IMO. He is a gem
Currently a member of the Roupies, and employed by the great man Roup.
