PP still available - not all doom and gloom
« on: May 04, 2010, 08:58:34 PM »
After reading vlads comments in the age today I am feeling a whole lot better about our future and ability to rebuild. There has been some conjecture about whether the PP had/has been scrapped, its now confirmed that they are still available, so this year we get pick 4 and a PP at the end of the first round, and if we win 4 games or less next season we will get picks 4 & 6. I don't know about you guys but for mine there is little or no difference between picks 1&2 or 4&6. If we can manage to trade in another top 20 pick we would have done very well.

Keep the chequebook tight for another 2 seasons and when free agency is introduced poach a couple of good players and we are back in the game.

Heads up tiger supporters, itsnot all doom and gloom, at least we will rort the system the way it was designed to be and be rewarded  :rollin

right now no just like no-one would have wanted a bar of melbourne 3 years ago and carlton 5 years ago. but add kruezer/murphy/gibbs or scully/trengrove/watts and all of a sudden the perception is "this team is on the rise with some serious a-grade talent". You add 3 top 10 picks & 6 top 25 picks to our list of Lids/cotch/martin and you will generate a buzz i guarantee you.

mate that's a silly comment , players are generally more likely to move for security and $$$ when they are on the other side of 25, if the team is a genuine contender that it's a bonus rather than a pre req. we will be in the fortunate position of having in the order of 700k space in our cap, meaning we can leverage that to our unique advantage...this is pro sport, $$$$$ speaks all langauges

and I agree TM, 4,6...compared to 1-2, pfftttt...still very good

this year would have delivered Cunnington, moritabo,or rohan

Who wouldn't want to come to our club? At the end of the year we'll clean out almost the every remaining list clogger and pick up some very good players in the draft. Elevate some rookies too. Potentially the biggest club in the league once we get up and going again. Best colours, bets song. Plenty of young talent going into 2011. What other club you you want to go to?  8)

given our reluctance in the past to part with money  e.g not having a f/t weights coach till this year what makes you so sure we will throw money out to get players.

we should thrownall our energy, resources and money into the VFL and local footy to find our Barlow or Pods but i guess when you have Craig Cameron in charge we are already 5 steps behind the rest
That guy has been a disaster for our footy club no wonder Melbourne got rid of him

I agree with you tony that it is not all doom and gloom as long as we recruit astutely and develop players successfully. We have more recruiters now who 'seem' to have done a good job with the current batch of young players but it is all about developing these players are building the culture. With pick 4 and an additional pick in the second round we are still need to trade for picks and choose well. We can not afford to miss another draft nor not put the money and time into development.

Picks 4 and 6 are just as valuable as picks 1 and 2 in other years in terms of comparison to existing clubs but not to GC or GWS. In fact in some ways pick 4 is better than pick 1 in other years comparing to what teams will receive who finish higher in the ladder. Pick 4 is a quality pick while a pick in the mid 20's are terrible. Most clubs will look to existing players where I feel we still need to look to the draft.

It's certainly not doom and gloom if we draft and develop well but otherwise we better get used to the wooden spoon because we will be collecting a lot of them over the next 10 years. Lets  :pray we get it right this time!

so if we win less then four matches this year, don't we get "3" top thirty picks?

No.4, No.26 (PP) and No.28? (add No.44 too)

if that is the case, then ... i can believe i am going to say this, before round 7 but ...

i will be happy if we win four matches, clean another ten or more players and have those four picks!

however winning four matches would be fantastic for Richmond at the moment!

Cameron has been ordinary it must be said I agree there but money needs to also be utilized on the footy department as well and if that means giving Cameron the stuff so be it.
By then the redevelopment facilities will be done and we'll have the best facilities in the league as well as the cash and resources and you'll also find that the pigs in the media who are pillaging us like Genghis Khan will also jump on board. Nothing sells papers like a imploding Richmond or an exploding on field Richmond. Publicity will have alot to say about this too.

Yep it's very good news if PPs are still available but questions need to be asked of Craig Cameron and the match committee last year as to why they stupidly allowed us to win more than 4 games last year. They should have demanded Rawlings to do what was in the list's long-term interests rather than allow Jade to chase wins in an attempt to win the full-time coaching job. One lousy win in a joke of a game and a meaningless draw has cost us pick 6 this year and a pick around 18-20 last year. Just dumb, dumb and dumb. Recruiting Thomson and Hislop was another brilliant waste of picks  ::).

We need a Natanui,a Johnathon Brown and man sized backline.
Can we get those in two years?
