Handicapped
« on: May 23, 2010, 01:08:27 PM »
In simplistic terms i think everyone would agree we gift away at least 6 goals a game, whether it be from stupid free kicks inside 50 or our normal Achilles heal, turnovers. So for all intents and purposes before the opening siren sounds we are already trailing by 30 points. No wonder we cant win a game, most other teams would struggle with this handicap.

Unfortunately while we have Mcguane in the backline who has less skill than a granny with a walking cage then transition out of defence is always going to be a problem. We need skillful defenders to execute the current game plan and until we do we just wont be successful for some time to come.    :banghead :banghead :banghead

l would drop McGuane & put Simmonds on the LTIL ( retired really ) & promote Gourdis who is a true backman.
Its time to get serious & develope this kids we keep around. Gourdis l think is the option

I was at the game and early on in the game the umpire was paying free kicks like they were going out of fashion to the bombers for total BS stuff.  They got a roll on and we dropped our bundle and they got a burst of goals.  That was basically where we lost the game.  What irritates me the most is the umpire inconsistency,  an essendon player was caught with the ball, spun and brought down, failed to get rid of it, ball up, from the ball up a Richmond player scoops up the ball gets caught, no prior....free kick...This crap went on for most of the night but mostly in the first half which set them up.  Another one that cost us a goal, I think it was White, used his shoulder to bump an essendon player aside and take a mark....perfect play...nope....free kick apparently...wtf for?  This BS turn over results in a bomber goal.  I watched an Essendon forward shove one of our defenders in the back in front of the umpire....pays the mark np... lol total SCHIT, another goal that should not of been, then there was the , I think it was Davey affair where he was about to be tackled in our D50 so he gets rid of the ball and cannons into our player, our player never touched him, they showed the replay....he gets a free kick in front of goal...and goals, so instead of a turnover, they get another goal, so far that is about three goals.  Don't be fooled, we got stuffed by the umpires which combined with our own mistakes made things worse than they should of been.

Yep.  The umpiring last night was disgraceful and biased.  It did affect the flow of the game and I think the club needs to make a public statement about it by going to Geischen and demanding some answers or clarifications.  We know he will defend the pampered preciouses but we need to raise it as an issue and do it via the media.  Going to him on the quiet will have zero impact and we will keep getting the rough end of the pineapple shoved where it shouldn't be.

Please....... I can't talk about the umpires anymore, they are deplorable. They are just dead set against us!!

OWL,you are dead-set 100% spot-on correct. Those first couple of goals they gifted the Bummers in the opening minutes got them off and running, and sucked the wind right out of our sails. And from there on in it just went on all night long.
Everytime there was a stacks on the mill, if it was a Richmond player on the bottom it was holding the ball. If it was an Essendon player, it was a ball up.
I remember the Davey incident you mention, and the Matty White one.
Then there was the time Vickery took a mark, and the Essendon player slapped it out of his hands to set up a goal. I never listen to talkback radio. Can anybody tell me what the response was from Richmond supporters after the game? I really hope the switchboards were flooded with angry Tiger fans demanding a fair go from the umps for once. They can't be allowed to get away with this week after week.
