I reckon our defence will look infinitely better when we can fast-track Gourdis, Post, Rance and further down the track Grimes into it, and start weeding out the likes of McGuane, Moore and Thursfield.
I think Webberley proved today too that he was very stiff to be dropped. Farmer must have incriminating photo's of the coach or something. :lol

Based on todays game and current form the good i see going into next year is we wont be at the bottom of the ladder.
Even with all the consessions being thrown at them the gold coast are going to really struugle next year. I dont know how Daniel Harris ever got a game at AFL level he was crap today and was still in there better players.
Karmichael Hunt might be good in 2-3 years but has a long way to go before he becomes a good player.  Thats IF he makes it at all, even when he did try and throw his weight around today it wasnt as bad as many would have thought. I do wish him all the luck in the world as it would be extrordinary if he did become a star but at this stage (yeah i know it was his first proper game) it looks more like a publicity stunt than a recuiting miracle.

P.S thanks for all the info on James Lawton  :lol

What did they do? Count everyone twice  ;D

I was there and IMHO 4,000 max

I have a full list of the Gold Coasts listed players & rookies it was in the record (which BTW is now a disgraceful publication the VFL should hang their heads in shame). I will post them tonight if people are interested

Round 9 Match Report
Coburg Tigers website

Seniors

We were greeted with a cold winters day on Saturday when we met the Gold Coast at Highgate.

Once again we were jumped with the Coasters kicking the first 2 goals but we steadied to kick 5 goals in the first term and have a lead by the end of the first break.

The 2nd quarter was a tight scrap with neither side able to get on top and at half time we had a lead of 11 points.

In the 3rd quarter we dominated but if it was not for some inaccurate kicking the lead should have been greater and in the final quarter we seemed to switch off to a small degree letting G.C outscore us but still registered a solid win.

Best players:

Nahas with 30 possessions and 4 goals and was dominant both up forward and on ball.

Power controlled the half back line and on ball and kicked the ball into our 50m line 5 times and set up numerous goals.

Polo,Rayson and Kahlefedlt were all controlled the back line and were ablely supported by Rance and Gourdis after a slow start.

Polak again was a focal target up forward and his strong marking was a highlight.
All over it really was a team effort

Goal kickers: Nahas 4, Webberley 2, Polak 2, Lawton 2, Hicks 2, Duhau, Carnell, Power, Polo, Roberts

Coburg:                5.5          7.11        15.17     17.21-123
Gold Coast:           4.1           6.4          6.7        11.10-76

Reserves

We met Box Hill at their home ground and we were keen for revenge after they humiliated us on Anzac Day by over 100 points.

We led at every change and while not having the game in our control it was a magnificent turn around and very similar to the Sandringham game where we could have such a massive transformation after only 6 weeks.

Nick Westhoff kicked his 2nd successive bag of 5 goals and will be pushing for a senior spot if he continues this form.

Alroy Gilligan was a dangerous player playing on a wing and in the past year or so has only played as a half forward,is now maturing into a great midfielder.

Nic Cattapan again got plenty of the ball and with 9 I50’s once again set up goals.

Tom Groves did another great shutdown job on Kitchener.

Chrsitian McErlain has not played 3 games after having a rough trot with hamstring injuries and he also will be putting his hand up for a Senior spot soon.

Goal Kickers: Westhoff 5, Dennis 3, Jordon , Bisetto, Fewster

Coburg:                3.5          6.7          9.9          11.13-79
Gold Coast:          1.3          4.7          7.10          9.13-67

The split round means we have a break this weekend and then we head down to Werribee on June 26th and it is an ABC game.
