And stupid posting it on YouTube  :banghead

I can just see little Adrian A at morning tea with his Flat White, chocolate donut scouring through YouTube and finding this and thinking "here's an easy 50K for the league"

« Reply #4 on: June 21, 2010, 04:59:28 PM »
Jake King and Jack Riewoldt have copped fines

Jake King, Richmond, has been charged with a First Offence for engaging in a melee at half time of the Round 13 match between Richmond and the Brisbane Lions, played at the Gabba, on Saturday June 19, 2010.

In summary, he can accept a $1200 sanction with an early plea.

A first offence for engaging in a melee is a $1600 sanction. An early plea reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to a $1200 sanction.

Was the right time IMO galvanised the group before half-time.

As far as the AFL goes - good luck getting it taken down and moreso fining someone. Its a very complex legal issue for more than one reason.

The security camera's at the ground are very high tech, that person who took that video would have been enlarged not long after the AFL got wind of it & also the TV stations who own the rights. l bet he / she will be hunted down & prosecuted & its a stupid act which could lead to a ban on simple things like the mobile phone

He could say he was just taking a photo or that it was for personal use and the one on the net is not his.... Can we not go to an event and record an image or video for posterity anymore?

Then there is the issue that it is hosted on a US server....

We get used to the AFL pushing people around but they actually have to establish that there is a threat to their own commercial operation and then go through the legal motions... I don't think a court would decide that a grainy mobile phone clip a few seconds long is that.

And any judge with even miniscule foresight would realize that the march of technology is unstoppable, and soon enough mobile cameras will be almost unnoticeable. Its up to the AFL to evolve, not to act like despots.

The companies that pay the money for TV right are the ones who wouldnot be happy more than the AFL.
But the AFL must protect the rights of the companies who pay for the tv rights or football could lose alot of money & sponsorship.
As for having the video removed would be easy, it breaches copyright laws. If they can get school fights from Australia removed off a USA server than taking down a video that breaches copright laws would be nothing.

technolgy means nothing to them, its the mighty $$$ that makes the AFL tick otherwise we be still enjoying football on a Saturday afternoon in the VFL  ;D
