AFL needs a successful Richmond
« on: June 26, 2010, 12:14:15 PM »
I know it was bucketing down and St Kilda puts people to sleep with the way they play but I can't imagine Richmond in a few years time as a top 4 side playing another top 2 side attracting just 58k to the 'G no matter what the weather was.

Moreso the tv ratings were only on par (400k in Melb) with the usual Friday night ratings when you would think given the weather those who didn't go would stay home and watch the game live. I hope Benny Gale reminds Andy D and co. which clubs attract the crowds  :thumbsup.

The fact that we have the third highest membership this year while being onfield failures for decades, just shows how supported our great club is. If we start to make finals 75,000 members is no stretch at all!

Richmond supporters need Richmond to be successful - the enormous support from Gen X'ers with impressionable kids relies on it!!!!
It's that simple Spud
"I discussed (it) with my three daughters, my wife and my 82-year-old mum, because it has really affected me … If those comments … were made about one of my daughters, it would make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I would not have liked it at all.”

The AFL will be licking their lips at the rise of Riewoldt, Martin, Cotchin and Deledio.

Riewoldt is the main one though, he is the one that can draw crowds and big TV audiences. A screamer here, a bag of 5-6 there, it's a good advertisement for the game.

Agree wayne. Nothing better than a high marking goalscoring key forward to bring the people through the gate  :thumbsup. If Griffiths lives up to his potential in a couple of years Jack may not be our only one  :pray.

Friday night got 47k. Now that's a record H/A crowd for Hawthorn vs Dogs but if Richmond were playing off for a top 4 spot we'd be pushing minimum 70k.
