....... an addict , not recovering, once an addict always an addict, just like with alcohol

Without a doubt the most disgraceful, ignorant, uninformed post I have ever read.

really give a glass of alcohol to a recovering alco, see what happens

Edit: namecalling removed

X the term addict means "cannot live without" and "in need" of what ever substance or material one is addicted too.

The moment you cease needing it you stop being an addict. Its pretty straight forward common sense.

So if your a recovering drug addict, alcoholic or whatever, once you stop having the need for it you stop being an addict for it.

Just like any smoker that's kicked the habit. Many past smokers now find smoking repulsive. Thus being a recovered cigarette addict.

Thus meaning the "addict is always and addict" comment being unquestionably utter and complete bullsh!t, lizards pi$$.

You've embarrassed yourself X who cares mate.

Storm in a tea cup.

With Cousins reading no alcohol in his blood in hospital and him wanting to be tested for drugs by the AFL doctors he's clean as a window.

This beating around the bush of some magical story you claim to be behind the scenes is just childish.

Actually it's quite easy to get the dosage wrong for two reasons.

1) He was on a new medication, so the dosage is different

2) With many sleepers, its quite common for you to be in a sedated state but not asleep. So in your drowsy state you have another tablet, but have no recollection of doing it. Best practice is to put the jar or box of tablets away from your bed so you can't just reach over and have another one.

X, you are wrong! It is obvious you have no experience with addicts! Or the addicts you know are lying to you! Addicts are often prescribed medication to help them deal with the symptoms of withdrawl! The body and brain go through hell in withdrawl, ranging from cold sweats, trembling and even seizures! Medications are prescribed to counter these effects! Often addicts have an underlying condition, aka co morbidity, that requires meds. This could be depression, bi-polar, schizoprenia etc. These conditions often  require meds and counselling! Depression is often accomanied by insomnia and therefore seditives could be prescribed as good sleep is essential for recovery. To not prescribe medications to an recovering addict is to set them up to relapse!

Its common sense medication mixed with alcohol doubles or triples effects of the medication

So 1-2 glasses of wine before bed would have lengthened and strengthen the sleeping tablets he took. Hence being hard to wake and woke in a drowsy sedated state.

So technically his sleeping pill went from a 6-7 hours sleep to 8-12. Trying waking someone up thats in a middle of a sleep on a sleep tablet and they are always going to be hard to wake.

To suggest there is more to the story is just stupidly incriminating and from a Richmond and Cousins supporter is just plain dumb.

Richmond star Ben Cousins swears off sleeping pills

BEN Cousins says he won't take sleeping pills again after a mistaken dose sparked a medical scare and a night in hospital.

Cousins spoke this morning for the first time since he was taken to hospital in an ambulance when his girlfriend could not wake him on Monday morning.

Cousins returned to Punt Rd and will train with Richmond tomorrow in a bid to play against Fremantle on Saturday night.

The star midfielder said he had mistaken the dose of prescribed sleeping tablets after the Tigers' thrilling win against Sydney last Sunday.

He would not disclose the medication, saying that was between him and his doctor, but stressed it was all "above board" and "not illegal".

"I got the dosage wrong and had an adverse effect from the medication,'' Cousins said.

"I found myself in a bit of strife and I guess it's probably a lesson for everybody, it's not just the medication that you're taking, but in particular how much of it.

"It's been a big wake-up call for me, so I was in a bit of a bad way a couple of days ago.''

Asked if he would take the pills again, Cousins said no, adding "once bitten, twice shy".

But Cousins said he didn't have a problem with players using caffeine before games.

Cousins said he had asked for an AFL drug test to clear his name because there was always "speculation and innuendo" about him because of his drug history.

He said he did not remember much of the drama that surrounded him early this week.

"I don't remember much of it, to be honest, I was asleep for much of it," he said.

"It was probably more scary for the people around me.

"I was in a fair bit of strife ... in a bit of a bad way a couple of days ago."

Cousins trained briefly and alone on Wednesday, completing a short running session and some kicking and marking with assistant coach Wayne Campbell and fitness staff member Adam Douglas.

"I've been able to tick the legs over today, I feel pretty fresh and with full training tomorrow, I'll do everything I can to convince the match committee to pick me this week against Freo,'' he said.

Asked about his career beyond this season, Cousins said he was indebted to Richmond and would push for another contract to play on next year.

"I've had a great time at Richmond," he said.

"If it ends now I'll be disappointed but I'll walk away a happy person."
