From Duds to Studs.....?
« on: July 07, 2010, 11:44:14 AM »
I would be really interested to read the opinions of my fellow Oerites with regards to our more "maligned" players .The improvement in some players who were considered "D" grade has been quite amazing.

Players who could be described as "cannon fodder" during our year of transformation now represent difficult and unpopular decisions to be made at the end of the year.

Matt White Last year he was running around like a headless chook....In 2010 played a fantastic game against Port and has not looked back since.

Jake King I had Jake in the "never ever again"-Just like Jordie. However his good form for Coburg earlier in the season demanded selection. Now he is being our "little" tough nut without being the liability he once was.

Kelvin Moore back to his 2008 form and in his last two games against Sydney & WCE looks like an AA defender.

Shane Edwards pumped 61 games into this little fellow....now we are starting to see the results.I still get a smile on my face when I think about his Brisbane goal.
Then theres Shane Tuck who was described an a "resilient bugger" by the coach. The transformation in Angus Graham has been remarkable

Shows what good coaching can do.

While we're a while off them yet, we're doing what a Collingwood and St. Kilda can do with lesser skilled players. Turn D graders into C+ or even B- players.

Realistically, St. Kilda have a lot of duds for a top side, but they all do their job and try to leave the kicking to Goddard, Dal Santo and Montagna.
And you may not think I care for you
When you know down inside that I really do

White- good as a squad player
King- wouldn't keep
Moore- tradeable at the right price
Edwards- very good improvement, safe for 2011 imho
Tuck- wouldnt keep but if the coach reckons we need a bigger body in the middle he'll stay
Graham- very good improvement, safe for 2011 imho

Im still not sold with King his kicking skills still aren't efficient enough for AFL level.

The rest have all had superb seasons.

He'd want to make the move to StKilda pretty soon then considering Nick will be 28 this year and their team is one of the oldest in the competition.

Pretty ridiculous call to make
