Least experienced list in the competition in 2011?
« on: August 17, 2010, 02:48:04 PM »
Given cousins has retired today and simo recently our list will have to be one of the least experienced in the comp next year 2011.

For sure we will get rid of Jordan McMahon and possibly Polak.  That will leave us with Newman, Tuck, Deledio and Tambling as having played 100+ games!

We will also have at most 11 players between 50 and 100, I suspect less when we drop King, Polo and maybe Morton.  If Foley can't recover from injury thats one less.

Its quite posssible we will have a list of 12 players of 50+ games at the start of next year, maybe even less! woah.

It is also more than likely that we will be around the 14-16th mark in the ladder next year

Agree will unfortunately be in the bottom half of ladder. Losing Cousins is a big blow. Whilst Cousins was not at his best with us he did play some very good football for the club and did influence the outcome of some of the games we won.

I don't think we will drop King or Morton next year given they are both contracted and Foley is contracted too despite whether he playes or not. So in terms of overall list maturity these players will boost up our average slightly but you are 100% correct - we will have the youngest list by quite some margin in 2011. I could be wrong here but I believe we had the youngest list this year too and definitely fielded the youngest team in both average age and games every week.

Unless we make the horrific mistake of drafting in an older player, our oldest players in 2011 will be Tuck (29) Newman (28), Moore/King (26), Foley (25), Polo/McGuane/Tambling/Thompson (24), Lids/Gus/White(23). Pretty scary when you are considered in the older bracket at 23  :o

Of those 12 I would say 4/5 may not have a long term future with us so that would mean an even younger list going forward into 2012. Eventually the cull will stop and we have enough talented players to struggle every year to find even 4 players to delist.  :pray

Lots more pain to come unfortunately  :'(

I'd say we'd definately have the youngest and most inexperienced list in the afl in 2011

Now that's scary given the huge number of draft concessions they will have.  Oh boy lots more pain to come next year, the way I read it.

Lids, Martin, Cotch and Jack are a pretty good 4 to build a team around. Add Morton, Edwards, Jackson, foley and Griffiths (shoulders staying strong) and we have a decent core group.

Pick 6 and a couple of gems from this draft along with a few of Nason, Connors, Webberley, Gus, Thursty, Collins, Tambling (benefit of the doubt this year due to injury) and Asbury give us a decent list to support Newman in the next 3-5 years.

It'd be a good list which requires great coaching and a well drilled game plan to succeed but that is what won us 6 games during the middle of this year so there is no reason why we couldn't win 8-10 games next year.

It's that simple Spud
"I discussed (it) with my three daughters, my wife and my 82-year-old mum, because it has really affected me … If those comments … were made about one of my daughters, it would make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I would not have liked it at all.”
