Fish & Chips
« on: December 20, 2004, 10:03:55 AM »
I have a gripe >:( >:( >:(

We had Fish & Chips for dinner last night and I am not happy and this has been a gripe of mine for a while now.

Why is it that hardly any F&C shops make their own chips now? You know peel their own spuds, cut them and fry them?

Everyone seems to serving pre-bought chips out of packet (like what we get at the footy).  :banghead :banghead

I know around where I live no-one makes their own chips - the closest place that still does chips the old fashioned way is a 15 minute drive

I want real Chips  :help :help :help

Arghhhhhh... I feel better already ;D

My fish'n'chip shop is nothing to write home about, but i think they use already pre-cut (not packaged) chips.
They're the real deal and nice - but the fish is pretty ordinary.
You want a good feed come down to Albert Park/Port Melbourne, Clarendens iin South Melbourne - pretty nice - but bloody expensive.

Yeah they're the ones I'm talking about pre-cut in a big white bag - some places cook them OK but I just miss the old fashion ones.  :'( :'(

While we were away we went to Panyesville one day for lunch - freshly cooked Fish and chips they said - fish yeap - Chips definetely not - yuk - though the dog ended up having a great feed ;D

Our Fish&Chips place uses the pre-cut ones as well. At least they cook them right. Pretty good F&Cs actually.

The best F&C shop was this place in Albury I stopped by on the way to Canberra a few years ago. All fresh and yummy!  8)

The most expensive place is the one at Willy by the mariner where the fish, dim sims and all are done in that puffy beer batter. Very tasty but a price to match  :o.

I used to really like Love Bites from the fish & chip shop - those apple turnovers. The lady at my shop is extremely unattractive and has hairy legs so I can't bring myself to ask her for a love bite. Much the same as I can't ask the burly bloke at the milk bar for a Golden Gaytime on a hot day. In fact, not on any day. 8) ;D

I don't know about the chips.  We often have fish which hubby as caught himself.  The last 2 weeks we've had yellow-finned tuna and before that some mahi mahi (otherwise known as dolphin fish) - yummm.

As for chips - I'm not really meant to eat those :-[ :'(

I am happy with my Fish N Chip shops that i use(2 in total)

One of them serves Special Flake and it measures 60cm in length, it is fantastic

And the other one have Pumpkin cakes, essentially the same as a potato cake but they are beautiful. Filled with grease and oil to clog up the system but they taste fantastic.

Chips are ok, nothing special though.

I hopped on my first tram ride in about 10 years after the AGM last night and went down to Beacon Cove, dropping in on Delish Fish.
Verdict 6/10
I asked for salt and hardly had any on them and none of those little sachet thingees.  Gotta have salt.
Fish nice, stringy calamari that don't break - don't ya just hate that lol and no tartare.
