Stupid thread, Cogs was the captain in waiting and look what happened there. Silly to even consider demoting your captain over 12 months in advance. Especially a captain that many commentators have said was captain of the year and he also came 2nd in the B&F.

at least we drafted cotch as a kid and the boy is Richmond from day one

unlike Kane Johnson ...
That is really unfair. In fact its putrid.

Kane Johnson grew up a passionate tiger supporter and always wanted to play for the Tiges. He cant help who drafted him.

Spot on, although Bentleigh has a habit of being a complete tool

Absolute no brainer Cotchin is our next captain.

He could be captain now if he wants too.

I think Newman will be captain for atleast another 2 years minimum.
Go Tigers!

Looking forward to Trent becoming a star of the competition first before talk of captaincy.
He's not there yet but you do sense it's a matter of time.
Let's hope he can get a full pre season under his belt leading in to 2011.

You will find the Newy will be Captain in 2011, and then you will find that Cotchin will be from 2012. ;)
One would hope we don't gift the captaincy of our great club to Cotch without doing a hell of a lot. He would need to have a very very good year in 2011 to be even considered. We gift blokes games to easily, lets not do it with the number 17 jumper.
If Newy has another good year like this he will retain the job for as long as until somebody jumps out for it!

Kane Johnson captained our club the same way he played for our club.

Who could forget those match winning goals he kicked from 25 metres out.

When it was time to stand up guess what he wasnt there.

worst captain by a long way for our club.

came to our club for one reason and one reason only. Money!!

It only seems like yesterday that all & sundry were assuring us that Lids would be our next captain.
In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act.

I think Lids still has aspirations to become Captain but I think he is more introspective and less confident motivating those around him than Cotchin. I feel that Cotch sees he is reliant on thise around him to improve and perform himself, whereas Lids is a standout individual performer who inspires those around him. Lids would likely lead similarly to Judd, Cotch would lead similarly to a Cousins.

To me, we have had far too many 'distant leaders/star' at the club and we need a captain going forward whose first priority is finding the best methods to make those around him perform. Instilling the idea that the team needs to work for each other foremost.

I think Cotch had that mentality every early on but with the tutorage of Cousins he now had the methods, tools and direction to become the typr of leader we desperately need.

First he has to earn it though...

I actually still believe Lids would make an outstanding captain. He has improved in so many areas of his game - I think we call it maturity.  ;D

Actually when you think about it; it makes a pleasant change to have leadership options available for the future. We haven't seem to have had that for a very very long time

True and your best players don't always make the best captains. At the moment I can't see Dusty captain material but who's to know?! Jack has plenty of personality too....

I like the idea of Captain Jack Riewoldt and even Morton who is always talking and trying to get em up.  Leading from the front, the others are all introverted weirdos who would be collecting insects and beating off to hentai if they couldn't play footy.
Lots of people name their swords......

Don't worry about Owl mate. Or Gerkin Greg. Both were banned from Yellow and Beige because their PMs were read and it was revealed that they are pedos.

The Chimp will be our next captain.
