Bowden gets Life

Joel Bowden was tonight awarded Life Membership of the Richmond Football Club.

Congrats Joel, after this years performance you deserve it. Please continue to grow on your improvement as a leader amongst the RFC playing group.

I believe that Joel is really firming as a great chance to become Captain.

I dont feel the same Bull.

He doesn't deserve the captaincy.

Apart from last year(15 games) he's been the benchmark for what's been wrong with the team
and i dont see how a last fledged effort in his late 20s sjould stand out to the degree of warranting the captaincy.

I've laways known he had talent but as the years went on his laziness and cowardice easily outweighrd his effort and consistency.

To award him the captaincy would be a continuation of our acceptance of mediocrity.

Another 2 years of this form would possibly qualify him for the role.

Congrats to Joel on life membership :).

I agree with Ox though that consistency at a high level over a number of years is all important before someone shoud be handed the captaincy. Joel wasn't part of the leadership group this year either so it would be a big leap for him to go straight to captain. I still think Johnno should be captain  even though Joel is a bit more outgoing than Kane appears to be in terms of talking in front of a camera or audience. Give it to Kane for a couple of years before handing over to the best of the next generation coming through - Cogs, Jackson and co.

IS there any other info from the AGM?

Anything in that caller to SEN about Casey snubbing Macek?

We'll have to wait until our AGM attendees stop partying ;D.

That'd explain the delay in news filtering through.

Was just a quick story on the News up here then, and they didnt really say anything apart from the weekends election results.

Reading around, sounds like the meeting was closed or closing as Macek moved towards the mic, and people already leaving the room.

Because of his long term service( :lol) to the club I expect him to be appointed deputy and possibly even vice but only due to a lack of  thoroughbred contenders.

I left early - hung around for half an hour for drinks - but left our party animals WP, BG and Jackstar there to party the night away.
The Macek thing looked bad, athough i don't think Clinton saw him come up to the microphone to ask a question.  Clinton had just said we're finished when Macek got up - too late she cried.  And i'm not sure Casey saw him anyway.
BUT IT DID LOOK SOOO BAD lol

There was nothing in it. Rumour has it that Macek wanted it to be the last question and was going to congradulate Casey and the board and wished them all the best. I stood behind Macek and schwab and they did clap for most of the night, a bit og a giggle now and then but that I to be expected.
David C was there sitting in the back row, he asked 3 questions, the same 3 that he asked last year.
Its getting laughable now that at every AGM he gets up to  the  mike and you can see the crowd  saying, he we go again. He is a clown ! :scream

That was it in a nutshell.

He was walking towrds the mic, Casey didn't see him (the previous question had come from the other side oft he room) called the meeting closed and people started to leave by the time Macek got to the mic.

I believe that Joel is really firming as a great chance to become Captain.

I don't think it is the right way to go.

As MT's mentioned Joel was taken out of the leadership group this year and look how he played.

Granted he presents well publicly but I, like Ox would like to see a couple more years of what we got this year before bestowing the captaincy

My view is - if it aint broke don't fix it and with that I would just leave him continue play good footy - you don't need to have an official title to be a leader - he proved that too in 2005.

With all due respect, David Clayton should be given a break. In his defence, our board has served up the rubbish to him on each of his questions. I almost spat out my chewing gum last year when I heard Casey blame the smoking laws for the financial downfall at our gaming venues (even though we knew about the law for the past 3 years)...but anyway.

Joel Bowden doesnt deserve congratulations. He has only surived at this club because of the incompetence of the crap around him. 7 years.....with 2 decent ones. 5 years of crap based on a name is unacceptable. He is not a captain, and has to put in some SOLID CONSISTENCY before he should become a nominee.

At any other club, he would have struggled to reach 150 games at this point. This is of course if he had played exactly the same way.

I would like to eat my words, but I aint holding my breath. They are quick to point the finger at Gas and Cambo yet this guy is praised like you wouldnt beleive.

I was there last night OM21 and I didn't hear them say anything about the smoking legislation impacting on teh revenues this year (they have previously :help but not this time) all they said IIRC was that they had made just on $100k against a budget if $500K.

The biggest blackhole was not the gaming venues but the budgeted increases in revenues in particular sponsorships that didn't happen.

With all due respect - one of the questions regarding the Competitive Balance Funds was not relevant - if you read the financial reports it clearly says that we are able to apply for funds from that if we want but the Club has no intention to do so so why would you bother asking what criteria would the RFC have to met to get the money when we aint going to apply for it?  :-\

I too was there last night and heard nothing on the legislation, but my point was from last years AGM. My point was that David C has some valid points. In saying that sometimes he goes overboard with his persistance and I thought his questions last night weren't as affective as they could have been.
