Will Hird Make it as a coach? Mongrels v Poodles
« on: September 30, 2010, 04:41:23 PM »
In my opinion, James Hird will not make it as a coach and will probably end up like Voss. A Very popular, talented footballer with next to no coaching experience who will find the transition from playing to coaching very difficult. There's no doubt that as players they both knew how to back themselves by winning games with their own sheer talent, but getting this across to the players as a coach and making it work is a whole different kettle of fish.
As a rule its the tough hard mongrels are the ones who make good coaches, not the purebred poodles Like Hird and Voss who win best of show every week.

There are some exceptions like Neil Balme who was a tough mongrel on the field but a pretty ordinary coach and Malcolm Blight who was an obvious poodle who had some good success as a coach. But if you look at my list below, you will see that many good coaches were hard nut mongrels as players.

Discuss...

Mongrels
-------------
Matthews
Thompson
Hardwick
Harvey
Worsfold
Malthouse
Roos
Jeans
Hafey
Eade
Sheedy

Poodles
---------
Walls
Wallace
Bartlett
Knights (Matthew & Peter)
Jesaulenko
Buckenara
Voss
and now Hird

Yeah i have no opinion until i see the full line up of his coaching staff. If it includes one of Choco or Bomber i would think Hird has passed his first test.

Unlike most of you i actually dont think they have that bad a list. I just think Knighter couldnt coach.

That being said it would be so funny if Hird didnt cut it as a coach and got the sack.

Currently a member of the Roupies, and employed by the great man Roup.

LOL @ poodles tiga  :lol. What category did Spud and Geischen fall into tiga? Donkeys?  ;D

It's going to really interesting in 2012 when the honeymoon is over and Bomber supporters start turning on their supposed "messiah" :yep.

Their deluded Board and coterie groups are the problem (sounds familiar). The Board was talking about a top 4 finish this year :wallywink

MT, Donkey's is a pretty accurate description but in keeping with the Canine theme, I would classify Spud & Geisch as Irish Setters.....Dumbest dogs ever bred.  :lol

Not altering a bottom 3 list and using just 2 live picks in the draft isn't a good start for Jimmy :nup.

Or it could be a move that saves him alot of pain in 2012. Keeping the same list in 2011 showing the bombers fans how many spuds they really truely have on there list.
Bring in alot of new blood for 2012 and fans will just eat up the thier young and inconsistent line for a year. Which will bring him to 2013 when he will have to start putting a couple of wins on the board.

Still not a good time to do it though, GWS will pillage the draft and there will be GWS compo picks (what if they get 12-16 uncontracted players?) along with anyone that wants to use a GC Suns compo pick in the same draft!  :o

Good times could be ahead for Essendon haters.  ;D
