seemed happy enough for what we got for tambling
hardly any movement on houli and grigg coz there clubs dont want to deal at this stage and wanna try and convince the players to stay
thursfield went to the club and told them he wanted to move on and that thursfield had looked at our list and saw limited opportunites whereas at some other clubs there is more opportunity
could be involved in one more small trade - no mention of what or who involved.

This is from the AFL site....

Richmond remains intent on trading for Carlton's Shaun Grigg and Essendon's Bachar Houli but football manager Craig Cameron said there was still some way to go before any deals were completed.

Both players have agreed to come to the Tigers but Cameron said the Blues and Bombers were yet to name their respective prices.

"When two young players want to leave their clubs and the clubs want to hold on to them, it makes those deals drag on a little bit longer," he said.

"Naturally those clubs will want to talk to those players about remaining and clearly they're their players so the club is within its right to do that.

"We'll continue to talk to those clubs over the next few days."

Cameron also said defender Will Thursfield had requested a trade and had spoken to a few clubs, including Fremantle.

He also said Thursfield would be required at Richmond next year if a trade could not be completed.

Craig Cameron also said we are really keen on both Grigg and Houli because they both have big engines. When our A-grade mids are out of the centre we need players to go there so we don't fall away in the midfield.

I don't see how that's an issue, the players have told their respective clubs they want to go to Richmond and we have the bargaining power of the PSD. Both players are uncontracted so we are in the stronger position. Speaking in the media that we are interested in them when the players have announced they want to come here is just stating the obvious.

they also know we keenly want both, so both clubs if they had any negotiating nous, would try their luck stalling till the very end knowing theres a chance we may cave and give something better for one at least.

As it stands, both know they likely wont get much with the position theyre in anyway, so they have nothing to lose by refusing to deal with us(keen buyer) unless we up the ante. Just unecessary angst imo and knowing our past history of paying overs I am getting more nervous by the day..

spot on TM

i would start preparing for another mistake from the RFC if i were u.

The only win here IMO is a swap for POLO or a freebie via the PSD. Any talk of draft picks is ludricous especially with Houli. The guy has proved nothing over his career and i cant really understand why theres talk of a 2nd or a 3rd rounder for him.

180 cms or whatever he is. Hardly the perfect size for a mid.
That aside he hasnt even played 30 games in what 4 seasons :banghead :banghead :banghead

Except if things get left til the last minute Carlton & Essendon could be left with their player walking out on the club for nothing. They have far more to lose than us.

Don't play the game if you're not prepared to lose. Cameron should be prepared to walk away with neither of them. Doesn't matter how keen we say we are about them, if the deal can't be done for a reasonable price then "See ya later boys".

We can only get one through the PSD so it will be up to us to decide if we can't resolve the issue with either of the clubs. All it takes is one club to blink and we get both.  ;D

but as it stands they get next to nothing anyway so not a big loss for them - right now for example its pick 50 or nothing, not a big loss for them(carl/Ess) if either player walks, so they may as well drive a hard bargain for pick 30 or nothing, nothing to lose except a pick they dont want
