SUBIACO Oval will now be known as Patersons Stadium under a multi-million dollar sponsorship deal announced today.

The West Australian Football Commission announced the four-year deal with Perth-based stockbroker Patersons Securities.

WAFC chief executive officer Wayne Bradshaw said naming rights were a commercial reality at stadia around the world.

“In time, we might see Subiaco Oval demolished or partly demolished to make way for a new stadium, or we may see a new stadium built somewhere else entirely," he said.

“If a new stadium is constructed in Subiaco, it must be accepted that the new stadium will need to operate fully commercially in order to meet operating costs,” he said.

“This will include naming rights sponsorship.

“Subiaco Oval as we know it will change.”

He said the money would be channelled into grassroots footbally in WA.
