Troy Broadbridge missing in Phuket

Just reported on Ch7 that Troy Broadbridge who was honeymooning in Phuket is still missing after being washed out into sea.

Apparently his new wife made it back to shore and is safe and well in the local hospital.

This whole event is a terrible tradgedy, couldnt think than anything worse than to start your marriage off like this.

Hopefully all turns out for the best.

I am a bit like you Moi - I was half expecting to hear that a footballer was missing.

I must admit that I am staggered by the number of Aussies over there at this time of the year - massive numbers.

And without getting political - I think it is wrong that the government hasn't sent planes over there to evacuate our national - sorry but it I reckon it is wrong

The images on the news still don't make the numbers killed from this total tradegy comprehendable. 100,000 and rising!   . The force of the quake alone was enough to slightly perturb the Earth's gravitional axis and move islands such that maps need to be redone  . How the local people of the various areas hit are meant to recover from this god knows    .

Still sadly no news on Troy Broadbridge. Can only hope he is ok and safe.

Whole AFL teams could have been affected if this happened say around September or October. IIRC Ottens as well as Geelong went to Thailand for their end of season footy/holiday trips this year.

Watching yesterday a bit, and one thing that stood out was this whining woman complaining about the Australian officials not doing enough to find her accommodation.  Is it just me or do these ppl make you feel ashamed?  Watching the locals from footage, they've gone out of their way to still accommodate tourists, while all around them members of their families have been killed, their homes destroyed and their livelihoods non-existent.
There'll be plenty of time later to say where things could be improved, but the main thing is to clean up these areas, get water and food to millions of people.  I think the governments are doing a fantastic job considering what they face.

If she is complaining about the Australian officials I wonder what she thinks about the American ones.

Australia has given more money to this cause than America has (something like 35m to 28 m). Isn't it funny how Americans aren't willing to offer such a helping hand when they haven't got a vested interest at stake?

Unfortunately, Troy's body was found by his father tonight and has been reported on the AFL site.

Not that Troy was anymore important than the other 150,000 odd people who have also died, but this is just a terrible tragedy.

The whole event is so sad, they had some amazing footage on Ch 9 this evening shot by a tourist of the actual force of the water crashing in the beach and surrounding hotels of Phuket.

Awful about Troy Broadbridge.  Sympathy to all.

The Australian Government is doing a lot more than those damn Yanks.  Tim Costello said on the news the other day that they really needed helicopters to be able to get around quickly as a 2 hour trip was taking up to 8 hours.   I get annoyed when people like the family of that disabled boy from Melb jump up and down about government officials not doing anything to find their kid.  Hate to say it, but what chance did that poor boy have, not being able to speak properly or even swim.  Unfortunately, he was just one of the many tens of thousands.

Not many times i've cried at the beginning of a footy game for another club.  Cried plenty after a lot of our games 
Nice tribute to Troy - pretty low key and tasteful.

I didn't see any of the Demons game. Only caught a late news clip showing the run-through banners side by side and both teams lined up side by side in front of them. A nice touch.

Glad Melbourne won so their players can walk away from the game feeling good they gave their late teammate a fitting tribute in his honour.
