Geelong's first is pick 23 so that ain't going to get them Foley. They would need to do first what was suggested in the paper this morning of swapping one of their compo picks back to the Gold Coast (GC wants these compo picks) for a high first round pick. They then could ontrade that pick to us for Foley. The idea of ending up with two picks inside the top 10 would be very tempting.

yeah gee, foley is a real x-factor (that show is horrible by the way) for us next year. A fully fit axle next year could amp up our mid field considerably... I understand we want low picks in this draft, but are we assured of a player that will be better than him?

like others though, i'm nervous that injuries may cruel his career.

I generally don't agree with trading for players-particularly unproven whiners but in this case if the Cats put a Mackie it would be worth thinking about.
It's that simple Spud
"I discussed (it) with my three daughters, my wife and my 82-year-old mum, because it has really affected me … If those comments … were made about one of my daughters, it would make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. I would not have liked it at all.”

Mackie is 26 y.o. Too old for us given we're still a couple of years away from being a finals side and a player type that we don't need to chase after IMHO.

agreed! but gosh i would give up plenty for Varcoe, he will expload this year! Perfect age, ability to break the lines and a good size.

Was it Varcoe or Dempsey we overlooked for JON?  :P I remember Miller wanting one of Ryder, JON and one of the other two.

don't mention the war MT... hahah

Varcoe was pick 15, Dempsey was 19. Gee we went out of our way to find duds in that draft!

If, and I still believe it is a big if, we are entertaining the idea of trading Axel then we must be concerned with his legs as at his best he was sensational and a midfield with him fit, cotch, dusty and lids hopefully spending some time there would have the inside grunt and outside speed we need. Wouldn't think Geelong would ever trade varcoe now he is going to be a goody only thing I think they could offer is Gamble (who from memory wanted out) and a pick. Don't see any of this happenning and don't want it to.

Taking Varcoe would be our single biggest mistake since drafting JON.  He is vastly overrated, spasmodic, and his delivery is more hit and miss than the Australian XI middle order.  At least he would solve our short term issue of finding a new whipping boy now that McMahon is gone.

Agree, when fit he can get the ball but can't use it! we are slowly weeding out the guys with bad disposal, Foley Tuck Jackson and White are all a liability, there is no room for all four at the club. Get what we can for Foley while we can!

Foley only has poor disposal when he's playing with a vial full of painkillers in his ankle
