Weat Coast did so well in that 1989 draft.....so many premiership players picked deep into the draft.

There selections in the middle picks don't appear so good.

( Of course I'm not a great expert on the Eagles so some of those name may have been premiership players, I just don't care enough to be able to recognise them.  I think that's a reasonable excuse. )

He was a good player (7 seasons, 107 games, 7 career Brownlow votes) but not in the same class as Scully (1 season, 21 games, 3 career Brownlow votes) or even Kruezer will be.  This wanker's list is skewed because he has included players that haven't had a crack at the title yet.  If he wanted to be objective then he should have set a minimum qualifying level - like not including #1's from the last 4 seasons - then maybe his list would be reasonable and worth the time to read and assess.  As it is it's a piece of journalism that's at the lofty heights of New Idea or Women's Day.

Those were the days when Victorian club recruiters only watched senior WAFL (and SANFL) games at best. The interstate clubs were known because of this to hide players away. Also the draft was optionable for South Aussies so although they were drafted they often refused to come over and just hung out waiting for the South Australian side (which ended up being the Crows) to enter the VFL/AFL. Chalmers was one of those who didn't come over despite us selecting him in the 89 draft. He ended up joining the Crows but was a bit of flop compared to his reputation of being the next big thing.

I would argue that Cotchin, Martin & Lids would take that for a career.

Career achievements
Playing for a side that has languished near the bottom of the ladder since his arrival at AFL ranks hasn't been easy for Brett Deledio, but the kid with elite speed has steadily improved to become an A-grader.

Deledio has had his knockers, even since winning the NAB AFL Rising Star in his debut season, but successive best and fairest awards in 2008 and 2009 have silenced those and been just reward for the hard-working midfielder.

The former Murray Bushranger initially played most through the middle, where one expects he may one day return, but has settled into a role across half back in more recent times. Deledio earned an International Rules jumper following his stellar 2008 year.

His strength overhead, pace and penetrative kicking make him a dangerous prospect for opposition coaches as he has attributes few other players possess.

Deledio will turn 24 in 2011, and with 128 matches already to his credit - and an expected rise in the Tigers' fortunes ahead - the Richmond star should continue to accumulate the playing honours.

So was John Hutton. He kicked 8 goals in a match against Geelong in 1992. 

Geelong though broke the AFL recoed score that day though.

The best thing about the bears in those days was their half back line of Gastev. Zanotti and Leslie. No matter how badly the bears were being thrashed those three would stand up. What year did we pick up shane fell from sydney?
