SUMMARYThe Tigers haven't beaten the Blues since the opening round of 2008 and will be keen to kick off their season with a win.
Carlton will be missing several key players with full-back Michael Jamison and tagger David Ellard suspended while forward Ryan Houlihan is sidelined with a calf injury.
Richmond has worked hard all summer to find another option up forward and it looks as though Jack Riewoldt and Tyrone Vickery will lead a two-pronged attack.
The Blues will need to counter this and without Jamison they might look to Bret Thornton or first-round draft pick Matthew Watson to inject some height into an otherwise undersized backline.
QUESTION MARKSBoth times these sides met last year ended with the Blues winning by more than 50 points. Will this be a more competitive Tiger outfit this year?
For so long Carlton utility Jarrad Waite has filled in wherever needed. With the loss of Jamison, will Waite be called upon to fill a hole in defence or will he make his mark up front?
After only playing four games last year due to injury, Richmond midfielder Nathan Foley is back. Can he make an immediate impact?
PREDICTIONCarlton by 32 points.
