Predictions for 2011?
« on: January 02, 2011, 07:11:48 PM »
A very unoriginal thread for this time of year but here goes anyway to get a bit of discussion going over the quiet New Year's period.

Your Top 8, Grand Finalists and Premiers for 2011?

Which side will surprise and rocket up the ladder and which will crash and fall?

How many games will Gold Coast win in their debut year?

First coach to be sacked or quit?

Where will the Tigers finish?

I'd love it if Ratten or Malthouse was first to fall, then Voss.

Your Top 8, Grand Finalists and Premiers for 2011?
Gawd I hope the Pies are one year wonders or this is going to be another painful season to watch :-\.

Collingwood
W.Bulldogs
Adelaide
Carlton
Sydney
Geelong
Melbourne
Hawthorn

Which side will surprise and rocket up the ladder and which will crash and fall?

Rise: Adelaide, Melbourne

Fall: St Kilda, Freo ........ Saints have been to the well 3 times and failed; relying on Freo being Freo.

How many games will Gold Coast win in their debut year? They'll finish higher than Brisbane with 7 wins.

First coach to be sacked or quit? Voss the favourite. Ratten, Clarkson, Worsfold are under the gun.

Where will the Tigers finish? Bottom 4 again sadly. A few injuries to key players and we could even finish last  :(. It's going to be a couple of more years before we start moving up the ladder.

First coach to be sacked or quit?

Voss or Ratten but I reckon Voss with Rawlings appointed caretaker coach in round 13  :rollin

We will be better than 8 wins and 14th spot. We lost our first 9 games due to 1/3 of our weekly team having 0-20 games experience while injuries and other issues barely allowed us to have any height in defence and attack for the first 10 games. Reiwoldt was our only tall forward apart from a couple of games in that time and we only had one defender over 192cm from about round 6 onwards which was Astbury playing his first few games. A player with half a dozen games will start to play with alot more confidence than in his first game so we started to lift as a team in round 10 with that chunk of our team playing with confidence by then and our team having structure with Astbury, Griffiths providing vital height in defence and attack. Post and gourdis also helped out later in the season. With cotchin and Martin better prepared and foley back as well as post, Astbury, Griffiths and gourdis being ready we should be expecting the kind of form from rounds 7-15 last year. 10 wins should be the minimum

I think our 2011 is very dependant on injuries.
If Cotchin, Martin, Deledio, Riewoldt & Foley all play 20-22 games each then I think we're a real chance to push for the Top 8.

Take away the Hird publicity factor and the Bombers would be down with us at $81 plus. North remind me of us 5 years ago with a mixture of oldies and youth but nothing of quality in between. They'll probably finish 9th again lol.

I agree with Infamy that we a very dependent on injuries but even with a good run I just don't see us getting anywhere near making the finals. Last year we were pretty much cannon fodder for the top sides and of our 6 wins we came from behind to beat Sydney, Freo and Adelaide. The gap between our best and worst is still huge and our worst was non-competitive even later on in the year (2nd Carlton game  :P ). Even if we don't win too many more games than 2010 I'll be happy to see further improvement in the cubs and more competitive performances against the better sides.

C'wood
Bulldogs
Hawthorn
Freo
St Kilda
Adelaide
Geelong
North Melbourne (welcome back Petrie, Anthony & Ziebell, can't understand why people would have melbourne in front of them in terms of development)

Premiers: Collingwood, too much depth not to be in serious contention

R/Up: Hawthorn

Which side will surprise and rocket up the ladder and which will crash and fall?

Crash: Geelong, post Ablett era + new game style will see them slide. Just looked so slow in the finals.

Rocket: Hawthorn, i think everyone has had high expectations for this team still big questions to be asked of the players outside a grader status

How many games will Gold Coast win in their debut year?

6. i think we underestimate how important game style and plans are to winning games. will take them time to get that right.

First coach to be sacked or quit?

Ratten hopefully. Hilarious if the bombers go 0-12 though and Hird gets the chop for bomber.

Where will the Tigers finish?
11th, maybe.

Wooden Spooners: Brisbane.
