A committment was made with Port to play in Darwin and was scrapped, what is stopping you from doing the same with Cairns?

The club onsold the darwin game to melbourne, so the overall commitment to the game was kept, just a different participant.

Finding someone else to take over the commitment for cairns could very well be a stumbling block, particulrly as they have probably budgeted for the money and would need to on sell it as well, not just give it away.

and you forgot to add who was the genius who gave the go ahead to dig up Punt Rd mid season. ::)

Do you think that has anything to do with the loss in Cairns - please  :banghead

Seriously jack when should it have been done?

During pre-season when the number of available venues drops dramatically so the costs to use said venues increases? Continuing our tradition of being "nomads" because the club for reasons they aren't willing to explain refuse to use Craigiebrun (which is the dimensions of OUR HOME ground the MCG - but that's a story for another day)

Just not bother with it and leave it as it is; a sub standard venue in relation to ground size

Funny how people want a stand alone VFL ASAP and want those games played at Punt Road but aren't willing to get the thing up to scratch to allow it to happen

Yeah at a cost. Do you think they head of to these places and not have to pay? Unless of course if they go out to Craigieburn; which wouldn't cost them a cent but which they wont do but as I said that's a question/story for another day. Actually maybe it's a question for Mr RFC_O

Bottom line is there isn't/wasn't going to be a good time to do it

Personally would rather have it ready for pre-season 2013, which is going to be a make or break year for the RFC because folks like me who weren't expecting finals this year but expect nothing less than finals in 2013

Actually I will ask it  ;D

Stig,

Why doesn't the club use/utilise Cragieburn more for training now that Punt Road is being re-configured and more importantly is the same size as our HOME ground the MCG?

Considering all the fanfare when it was announced that it was being built with only Govt monies for use by the RFC without the Club having to contribute a single cent instead contributing some goodwill I find it staggering we aren't using it more.

It seems the Club have washed there hands of it - why?

Thanks

if you wait another 8 weeks, then you finish the project 8 weeks later, at least, which means the ground is not ready for pre season.

is that what you want? to be able to whinge about that?

also, as i alluded to previously, the timing for planting/laying grass is critical. spring is the growing season, you want your grass established before the heat of summer sets in, not trying to establish during that heat.

it wouldn't matter what they did here, you would complain.

Yes I know that

But why doesn't the club just use it (and I don't think the surface had anything to do with the Foley inj BTW) for all on field training between now and when Punt Road is ready?

Rather than chopping and changing venues 3 times a week? Surely continunity and a routine would be a good way to go?

Again and it's just a personal view  ;) I don't think the Club uses Craigieburn to its advantage on a number of levels TBBH

Tell you something Al
I am involved in stadiums and grounds etc as a major supplier of products
I have no heard so much garbage
Then again nothing surprises me with the efforts in regards to the half finished social club at the start of last year where no air conditioning was connected and didn't have the vision to organize TV screens and foxtel connections etc
It isn't that hard

I can tell you Jack, that what you are spruiking as possible is only partially possible at a very high cost (to our club in this case).  What is real and cost-effective is the approach the club have taken so be careful where you throw around the word "garbage" - some of us are heavily invested in this very area and might know just a tad about what is possible too.  Not for the first time you appear to be demanding a resolution that satisfies a need for instant gratification and an outlet for venting prejudice, and rejecting the notion that the club might have actually done it's research, done it well, and come up with the best possible plan.

If they aren't happy (which I doubt) I would suggest they toughen up and say "hello" to the real world

Which does involve having to do things we aren't keen on

If the RFC was perfect and the correct decisions made
We would be on top of the ladder and playing finals
Sadly off and on the field we have failed for the past 30 years
We are getting somewhat better but are still a long way off the pace.off and on the field
The argument about selling games is a disgrace if you cannot win the actual games
Especially against a team who were winless
End of story
