Having finished 15th last season with a 6-16 win-loss record, Hardwick wants improvement in 2011 and believes it is possible after being buoyed by the Tigers second-half of the 2010 campaign.

"We made some terrific inroads towards the end of last year, we went 5-7 in the last 12 games, but we know we've still got a long way to go," Hardwick said.

"We've got to improve, there's no doubt about that, we're under no illusion that we finished 15th on the ladder, we've just got to improve every facet of our game, not just our football, but the Richmond Football Club in general."

"If we strive for that continuous improvement, we'll get to where we need to go. We still realise we've got a long journey in front of us, but we're making small steps which is positive."

i wonder what small steps means to the deluded ferals out there. probably finals this yr and a premiership 2012.  i hope people really listen to what he is saying. it wont happen over night people it will take most likely yrs just to make the 8.
