AFL summer ready to sizzle

    * Staff writers
    * From: Sunday Herald Sun
    * January 30, 2011

With just 12 days to the NAB Cup kick-off, GLENN McFARLANE, JAY CLARK and TONY SHEAHAN take a look at how the 17 AFL clubs are travelling.

RICHMOND

NAB CUP: Round 1 v Carlton (7.15pm); v Collingwood (8.20) at Etihad Stadium, on Saturday, February 11.

AFL Flag odds: $51

First intraclub: The Tigers were set to take on the Aboriginal All Stars in Darwin, but the game was cancelled due to inclement weather and the effect on the playing surface.

Who won't play in the first week of the NAB Cup: Tom Hislop remains sidelined with knee soreness following surgery last year.

Tearing up the track: Daniel Connors is keen to make amends this year after his poor start to 2010, and is said to be in outstanding form. Brett Deledio, Chris Newman and Jake King are all said to be training the house down as well.

Behind the eight ball: Club insiders said the entire group is nearing peak physical fitness, which is a rarity for this time of year.

NAB Cup smoky: Reece Conca has impressed. The draftee is said to exhibit silky skills on the training track, with Tigers' hierarchy expecting big things.

Career on the line: Alex Rance will have to prove he is more than just eye candy for the female Tiger fans in 2011.

Intraclub Game not cancelled, pre season cup matches commence Feb 12th not 11th and Tom hislop not on senior list so why is his injury even relevant.

“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

Boy oh boy. The Herald Sun have outdone themselves for carelessness and inaccuracy this time. How embarrassing for them.

Well it seems the Hun has some pride. They have edited the original article.

"First intraclub: The Tigers were set to take on the Aboriginal All Stars in Darwin, but the game was moved to Alice Springs next Friday night because of the waterlogged state of Marrara Oval."

It's relevant because rookies can play in the NAB cup and Tommy would make a missive difference to our chances in getting through to round 2 of the NAB cup and if he played and was crap it would give us alot of traffic on the forum   ;D

Seriously though, you would hope we play some (if not all) of our rookies in the NAB cup - for starters Contin, Hicks and just for MT; Brad Miller  ;D

Miller will play a fair bit this year. He is now one of our guns, we should be careful with him in the NAB cup  :lol

Great insightful reporting....

The training threads on here give us much more information than articles like this.

Even if he was fit it'd be still a waste of a rookie spot.

 :lol

Too early yet MT.  Give it another 6 weeks when we are building to the season start and are more focused on the reality of it all - then your bait will be taken.
