How can they put 'I've lost patience with the Tigers' in the article's heading when he never once says those words?   Horrible ethics and terrible journalism.

Headline says - 'I've lost patience with the Tigers', Chris Newman says'

Newy actually says - "I just have to be patient..."

Way to go sub-editor :stupid. So true to form for that paper it's not surprising either ::)

Who cares about the headline?

I lost patience with the tigers when we lost to Carlscum in 1982.  :banghead
I still haven't got over it.

CHRIS Newman's tough captaincy initiation in a crisis-ridden 2009 has made him the exceptional skipper that he is today, according to the man he replaced, Kane Johnson.

LMAO @ Getting a quote from the worst, most insipid leader the club has ever had.

Ok.let's discuss this,fellow posters.

What are your opinions on Chris as a captain?

IMO,He's a good ordinary footballer.
Whether he is a natural backman or not,it's where he's landed.
I can't recall many inspirational moments as a player but i guess of the group,he's the most level headed.
i'm not sure he has fully taken to the roll of Captain,it's like he took the job because word around "the club" was he would make a good one.

Would like to see him hand the reigns over to Cotch at the end of the year and concentrate on his game,ie
Offering some direction and confidence in the backline, not turning the ball over which he does ALL the time - it makes it hard to respect the guy as a footballer captaining the rfc
and finally CONSISTENTLY leading by example.
He's been playing footy long enough to be able to.

If I can feel his negative vibe coming off the field when he silently broods
I'm sure the players do...

Interesting decision giving the captaincy to Cotchin.

I'm all for it but will it effect him, he's had his best year this year and would having the captaincy burden him to much. More media etc.

I certainly think Cotchin would be a better captain. But whether it's too soon I'm not sure.

Cotchin is our next captain by miles just a matter of when.
Go Tigers!

He's the perfect age and has a whole career ahead of him.
Newman can't handle it

In all honesty, Im not a fan period. Think he's been a bit of a cheat as a player tbh in the bowden, johnson etc mould.

Cotch will be a great captain I think though and maybe time to think about handing over the reins soon.

Newman reminds a bit like Alan Border as the "reluctant captain".
Except he has half the talent and a tenth of his fight and tenacity
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.
