Newman is from an era where a half back flank had time to have a bounce, line up their target and spot them. This is no longer the case. He seems a bit confronted by this situation of having to instantly sum up and deliver in a quick moment, just before getting buried into the turf by a defensive forward.
He might be captain but he should not be immune to having something different done with him at training. He just doesn't seem to be coping with the frantic forward pressure this year. But I think he is good enough to overcome this.

unfortunately hasnt been able to defend for yrs now. Opp sides have been playing through his opponent for a while, too much emphasis placed on making him the releaase player which also makes us predictable. Captain needs to get down and dirty - set the example

Has definitely been a slow start to the year by Chris. Fortunately we're developing replacements..

Had a bad game against the Dees. Out of form. Really want him to lift. Usually very good with his disposal but was not sharp on Saturday.

IMO our worst captain in 30 years. Many times our previous leaders got us over the line. Sadly newman has never been able to do this and unless he pulls his finger out will become laughed at, as having most games without a finals appearance.

When it was time to deliver a captains goal today he failed again.

Currently a member of the Roupies, and employed by the great man Roup.

Must be replaced by Deledio.

Forgetting Johnson Daniel. He was woeful.

Newman two shots at goal in the second. Either one could have been a captains goal one on the run and one a set shot. Could have been 11 or 16 points down at half time.

I wouldn't be against Brett being captain.

Although I think Cotchin is our future leader, it may not happen.

Jimmy Bartel is as inspiring and natural leader as they come yet never captained the cats.

As much as I hate co-captains having Lids and Cotch sharing the duties may just be the right recipe for the RFC! :thumbsup
OER. Calling it as it is since 2004.

Big fan of Newy, both as a player and as a captain.  :thumbsup
Well done on 200 games, i hope we win but if we don't it is still a remarkable achievement that many afl players don't get to experience!
