Conca.  As you would hope and expect from your first pick.

Derrickx. Could bump out Graham to be our #1 ruck by round 1.

And that ain't bad.

Batchelor by a fair distance followed by Derickx and then Conca. Batchelor will free up our better ball users such as Connors and, hopefully, Lids. Conca, interestingly, may do a very similiar role too  :shh

spot on, Batch will debut early on, looks composed and comfortable at the level, x man will also get a gig early, he's impressed with a decent amount of ability and effort will see him quickly assume at least second dibs...conca still needs a bit of time, doesn't jump out at me just yet as someone that could comfortably step up, there's plenty of comp for his spot...let him develop at coburg for a month or so

Conca and Batchelor have both looked great. Early days but Francis Jackson may have pulled off a couple more winners, and according to the experts, we took them too early.

It is definitely refreshing to see that we aren't complaining about picking up duds, can't fault the recruiters in the last couple of years.  :thumbsup

  • Yes Hampson has taken a mark!
Batchelor, Derickx & Conca in that order. Finally in Batchelor we look to have a quality running half back flanker who could turn out to be another Greg Broughton and completely wipe Jordan McMahon from our memories.
Derickx could be the next Darren Jolly and Conca, well the sky's the limit for this kid with his amazing foot skills.

I have been super impressed with Batch...but i think he may have to wait to get a gig in the backline.  His time will come.

Conca has great decision making skills...likely to play in rd 1 for me...but that should be expected from your first round draft pick.

Xman...his graph is going upwards...likely to be contesting the No1 ruck position soon...the new sub rule may hurt him thought with Vickery/Post playing a fwd/ruckman role.

Also look out for Helbig... ;)

So the recruit that has impressed me the most - Batch.

In previous seasons we have seen a great deal of all our recruits very early on and they have stood out. To me that was done through complete necessity -we needed to fill holes urgently, give them experience and give supporters hope. This year there hasn't been the same urgency to play and sell the kids. We have heard a great deal more about our established players plus young up and coming recruits from previous years.

Only the cream of the recruits have been given the same profile as what all the recruits have had in other years. I think this is a very positive sign for the state of our list.

Besides hearing that Helbig has been mowing Dimma's lawns for him  :lol, I haven't heard much about Helbig, McDonald, Jakobi or even Cotin, Hicks etc Has anyone else?

Was talking with a WA-based mate of mine yesterday and he had a couple of comments re: Conca and Derrickx.

If you recall, I wrote in tt in about June last year about some top prospects and I was very hopeful that we could somehow pick up Reece Conca and it has now come to be so I am over the moon. Watch this boy as I think he could go past Cotchin and Lids if he stays on the track. He has got great character. Very tough, never whinges, unflappable on the footy field and a great thinker.

I have also seen Derrickx a few times at WAFL level and he is an absolute tough nut. He would play even both his arms and one leg were broken. Also not afraid to use his aggression. I would put him in the Stafford mould although not as mad.

Would be happy if both of these guys stepped up in year 1 - would make the future seem a whole lot more rosy!
