Aker rates Matty White

Fast, furious and irreplaceable

    * Jason Akermanis
    * From: Herald Sun
    * March 17, 2011

IN his first column this year, Jason Akermanis assesses the driving forces at each club.

THE Ferrari F430 is overrated. The Lamborghini Superleggera is not.

This might come as a surprise to many, given the prancing horse's reputation as the ultimate in luxury sport cars, but I speak from experience.

A couple of years ago I was involved in a super car club where I had the chance to drive both vehicles.

You can imagine the letdown when the Ferrari turned out to be twitchy, hard to get into and nowhere near powerful enough for the money it cost.

View Aker's list below. Have your say whether you agree or not.

The Lambo was lightning quick and handled like a go-kart with sticky new tyres all warmed up.

It was another example of how perception can be so different to reality. It's no different with footballers.

Every team has its Ferraris, the stars who are easy to spot. But for me and the fans of each club, there are others who are just as important because they give the team structure, hardness and unbelievable consistency.

...
At Richmond, Matthew White can run hard and run straight, and more importantly, he can run all day.

The key with the players on our list is the simple fact that they always get the job done.

They are the people we all love to watch and admire.

If you put a team of those guys out there against all the stars in the comp, I reckon the team picked from our list would win hands down ... just like the Lamborghini.

my take on this, if Matt White plays a good game, 20 possesions plus, we are very very competitive, if not win.
he gains his possesions between F 50 and B 50 and is a run and carry player.
I rate him highly when ''on song ""

hes a dud probably the biggest dud on the list. he averages just 12 .4 possesions a game and the majority of those possesions are shiite.i was going to go thru and find out just how many times hes broken 20 possesions a game but thought stuff it like finding needles in a hay stack.

so white gives us structure hardness and consitency. consistently poor. does what for stucture aka. and hardness lol you really are on the hooch.

So the is one guy that shows so much in the pre-season but then is average during the year. Played in the right position maybe as as running forward kicking goals. Must make an impact, has great speed and endurance.

Can he make it, I mean others do rate him too.

His first couple of games last year were fantastic but the he got injured and never realy came right.
Next year is make or break for sure, just hope for his sake he can stay injury free.

Yeah it would be good to see him play quite a few games in a row in the same position, I would like to see him have the same sort of year as Nahas had this year.

Sadly Matty's inconsistency and footskills let him down too often. He also doesn't really impact on a game the way a footballer with 6 years of AFL behind him should by now. He's always been a fringe player so it's hard seeing Whitey surviving on our list beyond 2012.

Needs a big year. Needs to impose himself. Needs to get to more contests. Needs consistency. If fails to shine in 2012 will be axed.

Started off 2011 well, coped a couple of injuries, was played injured (who could forget Darwin with the busted ribs  ::)) and the form fell away
