Tigers cheer squad legend is ready to roar once more

ALICE Wills could be Victoria's most passionate footy fan.

At 91, the grand dame of the game has barely missed watching a Tigers match in eight decades.

And while she may have lost the spring in her step - she can no longer attend games in person - there'll be no stopping her from watching her boys run out against Carlton tomorrow.

"It's not the same watching on television," she said.

"You can't see what's going on in the crowd and that's what makes the game."

Miss Wills founded the club's cheer squad in the early 1960s and has been on the sidelines for every magic moment since.

"I suppose I did miss a game or two but I couldn't tell you when," Miss Wills said. "It was just magic, every weekend to be part of the crowd."

The club's only female life member recalls with ease the triumphant moments from legendary players like Jack Dyer, Freddy Swift and Kevin Bartlett.

But she admits the most memorable times often played out in the stands.

"There is no way you can describe the winning feeling at a grand final and I've been to all of them," she said. "Well, not the 1921 game, I was only two."

My God, she looks good for her age
Haven't seen her at a game for about 15 years
The work she has done for this club IMO has been grossly underestimated
Hope this season's a good one for her!

You're not wrong FNM

A wonderful lady who's given so much to the Tigers- deserves to be a Life Member

Just as an aside, Ma Powell used to work with Miss Wills a very very long time ago for what was then "Victorian Railways" they were posted at North Richmond station  :thumbsup

As I recalled, Alice was inducted into the Richmond Hall Of Fame in 2002, after being made a Life Member in 1988.

Alice Wills has lived through all 10 Richmond premiership and hopes to be around for the next one. In the lead-up to a 30th consecutive league Grand Final without Richmond’s participation, the Club’s only female life member has a clear message for Tiger supporters - there is hope.

Not the cheer girls.  That was Carlscum with the Bluebirds back in '80ish, we followed next season with the Tigerettes I believe.
