An Idea/Suggestion
« on: April 07, 2011, 10:44:13 AM »
Just emailed the following to the Membership Department. Thought I would throw it up here as well for stuff.

Hi,

I have an idea/thought/suggestion, call it what you will, of a way to make money to go towards the Fighting Tiger Fund!

Now I don’t even know if it is possible, but if I don’t throw it out there we will never know will we!

I am a Richmond member (and Social Club) with my two daughters (also Social Club), but I do not have a reserved seat (I cant get to all games otherwise I would). After reading a variety of posts on different forums, it occurred to me that those members who do have a reserved seat may in fact not be able to attend all games!

Perhaps, there is a way for those reserved seats not to go to waste:

1. Members holding a reserved seat contacts the Footy Club to let them know the game and seat(s) reference.
2. Members who do not have a reserved seat could contact the club to enquire as to availability of a reserved seat(s) for a specific game.
3. If multiple Members enquire about the same seat(s) a mini auction could occur.
OR
3. A set price is established to "sell" the seat.
4. Any funds raised fom this could be allocated straight to the "Fighting Tiger Fund".

Maybe a website could be developed to assist in managing this process. Could also outsource the process.

The member who "owns" the seat are not losing anything, it would have been empty anyway. Members who purchase/aquire the seat for a specific match will get to be surrounded by Mighty Tigers.

To me this = WIN / WIN!!

I know that I would certainly prefer to be surrounded by Tigers when I go to the footy with my daughters.

Cheers :cheers

That's a good idea.

I'm an interstate member but get to several games but not necessarily home games (in fact have already booked travel for Darwin and the Adelaide game).  So it makes no sense for me to have reserved seating.

However, will be there for 15 April against the Pies and July for Dreamtime against the Bombers.  Would appreciate a scheme that allows me access to members' seating on the occasions we are in Melbourne.

Maybe like a "find a room" or lastminute hotel room bookings, sounds like a plan.

Time share seating...I like it! But could this potentially reduce all season reserved seating purchases?

So let me get this straight and I'll use my situation as an example

My family have a total of 4 memberships with reserve seats but I am the only one who goes every game but every so often I take friends and use the seats

Based on the above I would tell the club on a game by game basis whether I intend to use the seats. If I say "not this week" the club then can on sell my seat to another RFC member without reserve seats and the money goes to the FTF or back to the club

That's the idea right  ???

I'm in the same situation as you WP. I reckon this would work well, so long as it's an "opt-out" system (ie. tell the club that you can't get to the game and your seat is available) rather than a system where you have to nominate if you're going to the game because that would just be plain annoying if you go every week. You could make it so that perhaps 20% of the final selling price for that seat goes as a discount to the member for the next season's renewal (as an incentive to use the system), 50% of it goes to the FTF, and the remaining 30% becomes just normal match day revenue.

I am just trying understand exactly what it is JBFTiger is suggesting and how it would work

If the scenario I put forward is the what JBFTiger is suggesting then I have to admit that I cannot see it working and I don't think I'd be prepared to offer up any of my spare seats. I like knowing that they are there anytime I need them.

What I would suggest the CLub do is actually "buy" some of the reserved seats that people don't renew (say 50 odd) and have them available for members to buy on a home game by home game basis

i think the system JBFTiger is proposing is one where, if as a reserved-seat member, you know you can't make it to a game, you can "offer up" your seat just for that game. for example, if you know can't make it to the game against Hawthorn this week for what ever reason, you would be able to offer the club your seat, and they would auction off a ticket for your seat just for the game against the Hawks, but it would still be your seat for next week against Collingwood. you'd only want to use it if you're 100% sure you can't make it to the game, and if there's some sort of benefit for doing it.

Was not suggesting that these members even have to tell the club, simply if they knew that they would be unable to attend a particular round and wanted to offer up there seat to the plan. They of course would have the option of taking the money for the seat or donating it back to the club.

It was just a thought!  :gotigers

But to offer up their seat - they'd need to tell the Club  :-\

If you want to keep you seats then don't do anything, your 3 extra seats will be sitting there empty next to you just as you like it.

If you feel like letting the club try to make some money out of them by selling them to other members that normally do not have a reserved seat, tell the club for that week, and when you arrive at the game your extra seats may be occupied.

The next week you decide that that was a really bad idea and the people who sat next to you drank too much and smelt bad, then simply never inform the club again and your seats will remain empty.

It would work on a week by week basis and you would have to opt in every week that you wanted to let the club sell your seats. If you did nothing for that week then you would automatically opt out.

Is that what you were thinking JBFT?

I used my situation as example to try and get an understanding of what JBFT was suggesting. I am fully aware that the choice of whether I sacrifice my seats would be up to me
 ;D ;D

The reason I don't think it is workable is threefold.

Firstly, I would think the club would need to know more than a week out from a game if the seats were going to be vacant. I doubt less than a weeks tunraround would be enough for some people

Secondly, you need the club to administer the whole process and I am not convinced that it would cost effective. Whether we like it or not they are running a business and to organise something like this would need a lot of man hours from the clubs end and alot of ducks to fall in line neatly for the Club to make a reasonable margin on it

Thirdly, demand will outstrip supply and even if you go down the path of an auction I think you will end up with too many people missing out simply because they cannot afford to bid too high. And with that you run the risk of people feeling aggrieved

Just my take
