Hard day yesterday - saved 3 lives - by giving blood.
Did you know that Australia needs more than 20,000 donations every week to meet the demand and maintain safe stock levels. 80% of Australians will need blood or a blood product in their lifetime. Blood donated goes to eight different categories of people in need - cancer patients, heart patients, haemophilia patients, accident victims etc.
I was first prompted to give blood after reading the Bryce Courtenay book "April Fools Day" written about his son Damon who was a haemophiliac who died from AIDS. Shortly after reading the book, my stepmother contracted leukaemia and required a blood transfusion.
Anyway, this is just a little bit of encouragement to urge those who can to give blood. I gave blood last August and exactly a week later my dad had to have a quintuple heart bypass and they had to told me at the Blood Bank that some of the blood gets sent to Melbourne so it was comforting to know that my blood could be helping him.
Ok, I will get off my soapbox now
