Who will be our next captain?
« on: April 27, 2011, 11:34:14 AM »
Newy isn't going anywhere in the short-term but who does everyone think is next in line?

The AFL site is saying it'll be a choice between Cotch and Dusty.

Damien Hardwick was at Hawthorn when that club agonised over the choice between Sam Mitchell and Luke Hodge to replace Richie Vandenberg as skipper. He might be faced with the equally tough choice in the next few years between Trent Cotchin and Dustin Martin to replace Chris Newman as Tigers skipper.

But I'd like to see him nail a few more of those crunch goals though

If you were picking between Cotchin and Dustin, then Cotchin wins no question.

Considering where our players are at right at this point and that includes the entire list then nobody is really standing out conspicuously over others. Cotchin would have to do alot more and more consistently before I would be giving him anything and the same could be said and should be about Deledio. The only player that comes close to consistent high quality football is Riewoldt but he is such a dominant personality that i think it would actually be detrimental to himself and the club to make him the captain, he will always be a leader and motivating force for the players anyway.

Ultimately the captain will most likely at this stage either be Brett or Trent but it is by no means a fore gone conclusion.
