Richmond recorded its highest-ever attendance figure against Brisbane, in last Saturday night’s Round 6 match at the MCG.

A crowd of 37,438 attended the game, beating the previous record of 37,032, which was set in the 2001 preliminary final at the Gabba.

The previous biggest crowd at a Richmond-Brisbane match in Melbourne, was 34,646, in Round 7 of the 2009 season.

The Tigers now have their sights on breaking their all-time attendance record against Fremantle, who they meet in a big Round 7 encounter at the MCG this Saturday twilight.

That record is 38,010, which was set at Subiaco in Round 5 last season.

Richmond’s biggest crowd for a Melbourne match against Fremantle was the 26,219, who attended the Dockers’ debut in the AFL competition, in the opening round of the 1995 season, at the MCG.

And based on the email I just received from the club, you have a chance to win two tickets to Cairns if you attend both games - Brisbane & Fremantle  :pray :thumbsup

I think Lions would have a bigger fan base in Melb then Freo.
But hopefully the Tiger army come out in a big crowd to cheer on the boys.

A chance to be in the 8 even for a little while if we beat a legit contender should bring out more tigers than last week. I think we can go 35-40k weather permitting even taking into account Freo's lack of support

That maybethe case but the silence was deafening after every lions goal on the w end. Crowd was massive all things considered and was all tigers.
“I find it nearly impossible to make those judgments, but he is certainly up there with the really important ones, he is certainly up there with the Francis Bourkes and the Royce Harts and the Kevin Bartlett and the Kevin Sheedys, there is no doubt about that,” Balme said.

Love the initiative shown by the club atm with the fans.

I know the MCG is the peoples ground but I just hate seeing Collingwood now and Essendon in the past cutting our lunch and playing there in front of big crowds e.g when Essendon got 85K against W Coast in the 1996 first semi. Has been our home since 1965 and time to let the other tenants know that we are the major tenants not them because they have had a few years of recent success that still sticks in the memory.

I can remember a game on a Friday night in 1995 against Adelaide when we were 6-0 and we drew 39K which back then was massive. It's possible when we get our act together that a 60K crowd against interstate opposition will be considered an average crowd and when we play Vic crowds we can look at something over 75K. The Gale blueprint although a little way off from reaching fruition is starting to look realistic.

Baby steps Tigers. :gotigers

I couldnt make it as i play footy, however, on the way home from footy Drew Morphett said on the radio that he was disappointed that more Tiger fans did not turn up considering how well we are going! My wife asked if it was a poo crowd and i said no, i thought it was great crowd! But Drew may have half a point, imagine how good that crowd will be when we are really smoking along? we truly are the sleeping giants imo!

Only Collingwood and Essendon (7-12 years ago at their peak) have had bigger crowds against Freo in Melbourne than we did tonight. Drew's Blues highest has only been 28k. Anyway beating North and Brisbane leading into yesterday's game is hardly going to get the full bandwagon going yet. It's consistent results like yesterday that will get the full Tiger supporter base turning up again and again.

Benny Gale thanking supporters for the past two weeks crowd numbers  :thumbsup

--------------------------------------------------------------

The competition was a resounding success, helping Richmond to break its all-time crowd record for a match against Brisbane, and the record for a clash with Fremantle in Melbourne.

“Naturally, we had some concerns when we drew interstate clubs Brisbane and Fremantle for consecutive home games,” said Richmond CEO Brendon Gale.

“We wanted to be as proactive as possible in ensuring that we attracted reasonable crowds to the games and, in the end, those who attended were rewarded with some very exciting football from our young, developing side.

“While we congratulate the winners of the competition, we would also like to thank all our members who attended both games.

“Crowds and membership numbers are key indicators that allow us to successfully drive our off-field business and we are very thankful for the outstanding support of the Tiger Army.”
