show me what afl list has 7 kpp age under 21 who are already stars?

we dont need to chase after a mature defender. not if we accept we are still pretty early into rebuild.what we do need to do is get onto the list two or three big boned if you like, tall defenders. to go with grimes and astbury.
the thing is we dont have to pay a huge price to get a good kpd just look at where most of them are taken. few come from the first round and most of the better ones have come from the second and third rounds.

we only have a serious problem if we think we are a finals side then we will have to trade for all sorts of mature types.
i know this is a big knock but i still believe structurally we should have used pick 31 this yr on a tall defender and taken the risk batchelor would be there later. i say this even though i think we have picked a decent kid in batchelor. if not pick 31 they should have used pick 26 the adelaide pick we got for tambling and used it on one of darling, pat  mccarthy who i thought was close to the best tall defender in the draft or scott lycett a very promising ruckman. we could have done something about a chronic list deficiency and taken batchelor at the same time.

i say all this from the perspective that

mcguane - delist/trade
thursfield - delist/trade
rance - likely delist/trade
gourdis - likely delist/trade
graham -  delist/trade
browne - 50/50 at best to make it likely delist. development still
post - struggling will he make it. atm 50/50 at best. development still.
westhoff - a long shot project you hope he makes it but its more likely he wont. development still.
derickx - 23 24 yr old ruckman with good size should be pounding the door down. can he step up to the level. has a yr or two to adjust to the tempo.
miller - 27 28 yr old recruit who is no long term prospect whos career has in the main been ordinary.
astbury - shows promise but imo has done nothing to say hes a player. development stil.
griffiths - the next big thing according to some. based on what i ask. there is no guarantee. development still

Hille aside, I would more than happily take either one of their other two ruckmen in Bellchambers and Ryder....Hope the three of them don't stretch us too much come Saturday and we can run off them :-\

True about the age, but he is a much better footballer than either of them.

Not convinced about ryder, especially as he gets older and his leap diminishes.

Isnt one of the knocks on stanton his kicking?

What so sad about having his pictures all over my bedroom walls bents? In fact I idolize him so much I close my eyes and imagine my missus is him in those intimate moments.

Bellchambers was pick 8 in the 2008 pre-season draft
We took Gourdis at pick 1
Our last pick in the national draft that year was #51 Putt
Essendon's was #54 Hooker

There's the KPD and the Ruck that we are screaming out for that are in their best 22, taken with picks after ours, and we've got nothing to show for our "investments"  :banghead

Add to that Pears at pick 23 in the 2007 draft
We traded away pick 19 for McMahon
We also took Hicks with pick 7 in the 2009 rookie draft
and left Luke Thompson for Adelaide with pick 17

Hmmm Pears, Bellchambers, Hooker, Thompson.
Still it's all hindsight, who could have guessed they'd come good.

can i put my hand up here pears and hooker were two i advocated we take. a down side was i really liked rance as well. the yr before i advocated we take eric mackenzie instead of edwards i still think mackenzie will turn out a decent player.

The problem isnt the players, the problem is RFC, Essendon can devlop draftees, we couldnt develop a rash

We're not about the now - if we win a few more games this year with an experienced ruck who retires in a couple of years time it still leaves us with nothing when our team starts to become 'of age'. Better to take the rodgering now if we can find a ruckmen who can develop into a competitive pair when the rest of the squad is developed. I hope Browne becomes of of these  :pray
