Chris Newman vs Joel Bowden

One is our current captain, someone who has been unassuming for a long time, but a real warrior. I didnt rate him for a long time, but clearly he has become an outstanding leader and a good player.

Joel Bowden, Dual Best & Fairest, criticised by many including me for getting cheap kicks in defence, but had lots and lots of admirers, some say he should be regarded as a Richmond champion.

Both played mostly in defence - So Who Wins? Newman or Bowden?

Bowden is the better player

Newman is the better leader

If I had to pick I'd pick Newman, you can't buy good leadership.

Newman is a better Player and leader seeing as to be a great player, one has to lead by example.

Bowden winning 2 B7Fs is a yardstick of how desperate we were.

Newman vs Bowden

To me no contest I would take Newman at any time of day any day of the year any year as simple as that.

I won't go into but if you want my opinion just look at my posts in previous threads but I will say this Newman

has shown more on field leadership in 31 games under Hardwick than the other bloke who played in 260 odd

matches.

not sure it is that clear cut, i loved Bowdo but Newy is equally as skilled and reliable with the leadership skills that are galvanising the group, he is oft underrated newy, to those that know him he is aclaimed as a leader of men :thumbsup

Loved Joel, but hated the way he plyed at the end, therefore Newman by a mile in his lead by example, hard working, unassuming, humble, work rate

Lazy.
Wouldn't listen to orders from the coach via the runner.
Was axed by Rawlings because of his poo selfish attitude.

They r facts...so the question begs, how great was he ?

Joel was very good without being great, with a stack of talent.

Newman is just inspirational and would bleed for anything yellow and black.

Football is about desire and Newman peees out desire. Joel as much talent he has and as how versatile he was never showed a stack of desire, I couldn't say the same for Joel. Didn't like contact did Joel.

Agree with Username. Joel was one of the best tigers of this generation.
Dont blame him for the role he played late in his career.

we're not.
It's more about how he went about playing the role given to him and that is,with petulance.
Newman also had different roles thrust on him as too did Richo.
Both conducted themselves with pride and passion.
For whatever reason,Bowden failed in providing 100%.
He is so not a part of history that contrary to popular belief,i dont even hate him anymore.
I'm merely setting the record straight.
I find it ironic that he was banished in the last half of his final season for reason justified, yet has squirmed his way back in with the current posse.
It actually concerns me.

So it's settled then.
Joel catered to women and christians with his sassy yet fair sense of play...
