Fire Sales
« on: May 22, 2011, 11:45:19 PM »
To be had at Western Bulldogs, St.Kilda.

Unfortunately we are probably to far away from a position to take advantage of some exodus' from these clubs that will look to rebuild. But worth looking at.

Some middle aged players would be tempted to leave their club to a club like ours who shows promise of building towards a long finals window whilst their clubs will be falling to the bottom 4 looking for draft picks.

Someone like Carlton are probably primed to do so, picking up maybe a player like Kossi for nothing (worth that anyway) or a Brian Lake who is doubtful to have a future at W.B after years of being a whipping boy.

Do we stay on our path of grooming our own? Most definetly but you have to have a look and see if their is a bargain on the trade table. Lake will be 29 next year. Probably just too old for us.

Anyone worth taking from these clubs to help our cause, that is likely to want to leave? Would love a Sam Fisher (29 next year though)
Go Tigers!

Looked at their lists and couldnt find one player who we should chase with any purpose.

Dean Polo went fairly well on the weekend, worth a look maybe? Only 24.

Griffen from Dogs?  Free agency.  Proven to be a gun finals player.

Agree - He's the gun who we could have had with that PICK we traded  :rollin

Reason I said Griff is that we could get him for "free" since he's part of the first batch of players (2004 draft) that are eligible for free agency at the end of 2012.

I don't rate Griffen that highly - goes missing abit when the Dogs are really struggling

But have to say I rate him higher than Cooney

I pointed out last year how quick things can change, most would of hung drawn and qtrd this topic this time last year.
NOW? Not much you'd really take hey!

Lets have a realo close look.

Bulldogs

Boyd - Too old
Griffen - Have enough of that type and would stick with ours thanks.
Higgins - Reckon we could slot him in somewhere
Ward - Had a game against us but watch it man he was unchecked most of the time, back to earth with a thud this week, maybe could help Coburg out  ;D

That's all really, they are an evenly balanced side gaining in the Tooth poor doggies NOT

Saints

Jacks Cousin - No matter how much I hate him imagine him and Jack together YEP
Goddard - Not as great as everyone makes out but would fit in very nicely in our back half YEP
Fisher - Solid backman which we are screaming for probs just a touch too old
Montagna - Kinda an up market of Griffen where I would stick with ours could replace whitey ( But I really like whiteys' hardness and passion atm ) so no.

Higgins
Jacks Cousin
Goddard

maybe Ward/Monagna

McEvoy ?????

Griffen - Free agency perhaps but wouldn't want to pay too much
Higgins - Yes, if he could stay fit
Ward - Yes
Nick R - Too old
Goddard - Too old
Fisher - Too old
Montagna - maybe, but wouldn't throw the farm at another midfielder of his age

Higgins plays 7 games a season. Skill is there, consistency no way near it, his body is poo.

I'd take a look at Armitage from the Saints, think he is a little underrated, playing that Lenny Hayes role nicely at the moment for them.

What about the dogs young ruck Roughhead? What's happened to him? He looked like a decent prospect pre-draft and played a couple of good games at senior level if IIRC. Injured? Out of favour? Potato scrote?

He's been a gun in EVERY final that the Bulldogs have played.  Literally close to BoG every time.

Certainly wasn't a gun yesterday - things got tough he went missing again  ;D

Great to be good in finals but you need to be able to stand up for 22 rounds, in tough times and help get your team there
