90% of these spambots seem to have a gmail as their email account so if no regular OER poster minds we will block accounts who register with gmail for the time being.

Admins why dont you just set the forum to admin approval for all new member accounts. Might be a bit of administrative overhead but I guess it depends on how many new members we get each day. From what I can tell, we don't get too many and most of our posting is done by regulars anyway.

I say lets get elitist and hire a doorbitch.  I vote for Ox as he is incredibly discerning and will always perform his duties without fear or favour. I can just see the Ox new member interrogation I mean questionnaire

We have tried that once before tiga but because there are times when we aren't able to get the board for extended periods it became really difficult to manage and slightly unfair on the legitimate new members

Fair call WP. As I have been a forum admin in the past, One thing to try is to restrict all new members to a particular part of the forum until they have reached a set number of posts. Eg start them in ASL or a welcome section in the general forums or something like that and when they have reached say 5 posts, send them into general population. That way you know where the spam is and its easier to know who to get rid of. Its also an effective deterrent to the post loss trolls.
