Because Collingwood and Essendon seemingly are trying to for 2012!

Essendon and Collingwood eye Foxtel channel

ESSENDON and Collingwood have joined forces with Foxtel in a possible pointer to some of the network's new AFL programming next season.

From today, both clubs will produce their Thursday night internet programs from Fox's Southbank studios, with the hope of securing a slot in next season's schedule, when Foxtel relaunches a dedicated AFL channel.

Most clubs already produce video segments for their websites - with Hawthorn building a studio at its Waverley headquarters and producing a program for Tasmanian television. But the Bombers and Magpies will make use of Foxtel's graphics, studio space and cameras.

Foxtel's Sarah Jones will host the half-hour Essendon program, The Bomber Show, while Michael Christian will front Black and White Tonight.

The clubs will record the shows this afternoon, and they will be available on their websites tonight.

Essendon's initial program will include an interview with retired forward Mark Williams, as well as a segment with assistant coach Brendan McCartney and stand-in skipper Mark McVeigh, featuring match committee vision. A regular website segment in which coach James Hird explains his chosen line-up will also be shown in full.

The Bombers, who plan to give supporters an extra insight into what goes on around the club, hope that if the program is picked up by Foxtel next year, it could eventually be shown live, allowing for interaction with supporters via Twitter messaging.

The move follows that of many of the world's major sporting teams and codes, such as English soccer and America's NBA and NFL. Several clubs run their own web or cable programs, with Manchester United's Man U TV featuring daily news programs and commentary.

Essendon chief commercial officer Richard Burnet said the club's aim was to give its supporters access to things that took place around the club that they would not normally see.

Why?? So more people can wine about how much media time we are getting? We need to get our onfield crap together before we could even consider having our own T.V program!

Don't worry about the whiners, whiners will always find something to whine about no matter the situation good or bad, from a marketing and promotional point of view this is one of the types of exposure you want if you can get it, as long as the content is good. The fact that our "on feild" situation is struggling doesn't absolve the rest of the establishment from forging ahead.

It'll be on the Comedy Channel and just feature footage of Edwards, White and Jackson butchering the ball.
And you may not think I care for you

Those 3 could have their own sitcom, but on the other hand, would probably keep delivering lines to the wrong person and looking and the wrong camera

What happens is the television rights deals have a cash and a contra element. Foxtel pays the AFL a certain amount to get the rights and the rest is made up of ads etc that have the same value as the rest of the deal. That's why you see membership ads etc on Foxtel.

Lets bring Hague Shier back to run it. He use to run the old Sport 927 shows many years ago where all the hillbillies would ring in and take pot shots from the cheap seats at the club. Great Stuff!
