Kane Johnson on SEN
« on: February 28, 2005, 03:54:31 PM »
SEN are having a Tiger membership day today b/w 7am and 7pm and they had Kane Johnson in this arvo.

* He spoke very well and talked about growing up as a Richmond supporter and how much he feels at home at Tigerland. He said he enjoyed his time in Adelaide and made many mates but there was always a calling to come home.

* He mentioned we'll be taking a much younger side up to Alice. The senior players to be rested won't be known to later in the week. Hopes Freo brings a competitive side so we can have a good hitout (nice little gibe at the bombers).

* Talked about how Tiger supporters are different in terms of passion etc. When there's a sea of yellow and black there's nothing better. It gives him a buzz running out. Asked everyone to sign up and get behind the side.

* Spoke about Rodan and how disappointing it was for him as he had really come out of his shell over summer and was as fit as ever. Opportunity for Krakouer who is ready to go and only needs to compete for 4 quarters. Gas is getting back his old form and has gained his pace and fitness which he missed last year. Said Sarge wasn't as bad as first thought and will be out for 8-10 weeks as opposed to 12-14.

Bowden will be on later on on the run home.

* I forgot to say Johnson said Cogs may play in Alice this week. Not sure I would take that risk in his first senior game back with flying and all  :-\.

Joel on now.

* The past few years we weren't going anywhere. Terry's come in and freshed the place with Royal and co. Having 5 pics in the top 20 brings 5 good kids withouth any of the baggage of the past losses.

* Last year was a development in his character. Said it was also a fitness issue as he had an interrupted pre-season. He was peaking mid-season while others were levelling out. Thought he got a good run from the media as he was playing on a bigger blokes.

* Said he's very passionate about Richmond. When the chips are down you need to step up.

* Training is far more intense that previous years. Training is game-based so if you don't work hard another bloke will get the ball so it forces you to get off your butt. Wallace's training method called "Rings" is hell for some alot of the blokes  ;).

* Jonathan Brown was the toughest opponent last year as he is just plain huge. For most of the time he didn't cop the real big opponents so he physically match it with most blokes he played on.

* Said we need to hold the fort down back as Sarge was groomed for the CHB role on the bigger blokes.

* Rodan's knee operation today was a success and he'll be home tomorrow.

One thing Johnson talked about which I left out was how the Club is making a concerted effort to build back the bridge between the players and supporters/members unlike previous years.
