Tigers to trade for a ruckman

    Jon Ralph
    From: Herald Sun
    August 10, 2011

RICHMOND says it is unwilling to offer its first-round selection in a draft some recruiters say could be among the poorest in recent history.

But the Tigers are likely to use the chance to acquire a ruckman as a key selling point in the trade period.

Head of football Craig Cameron said the first pick was unlikely to be on the table.

"It would have to be something special on offer," he said. "We are still keen to get the best available young talent in, and we would like to be active in the trade market, but not necessarily with the first pick."

The Tigers' second-round pick is a chance to be on offer, with the club likely to be looking to trade it for a ruckman.

Richmond will also have an early selection in the pre-season draft to use as leverage to try to obtain a ruckman.

A little bit different from his comments earlier in the season saying we were going to be heavily involved during the trade period!!!!!

Well he is just letting it be known that we are after a Ruckman, we can't approach anyone directly yet so he is hanging the bait out there.

I've left things in the bowl that would handle trade week better than CC.

Lets hope so, I think we need to be very very active, we need a profile ruckman and a backman (Trengove), I know not everyone agrees but I believe he would be great in our team, its hard for him at Port and I think he has lost interest there too. Also wouldnt mind another utility.

Based on what I've seen of Trengove over the last couple of months since all these rumblings started I'd be giving him a massive miss. Disposal is ordinary and his lack of attack on contests extremely disappointing. Would rather go with Carlisle over Trengove. Bigger body and better disposal by foot

Besides jungle drums out of Adelaide now have Trengove more likely to stay than go

When it is all said and done it comes down to what we are prepared to give up. To get something decent you need to give up something of similar value.

Would hope our 1st round draft pick is not put ont he table unless it was for absolute gun player not a "we hope he will develop into a gun type player"

Fair enough WP, well time will tell I guess, agree on all your other points though.

Mitch Clark- 2nd round pick plus Foley or we get into a bidding war for the PSD. I can't see any other club offering a top 20 pick for him.
Zac Clarke- unlikely, on a long term contact, so nothing less than our No.1 pick outright would get the deal done. I'd go for it.
H McIntosh-initially I thought maybe a 1st round pick downgrade, but seems to have reduced in value with injury- a 2nd round pick plus player.

Agreed on that however I think Port currently is a basket case so its hard to gauge honestly how Trengove actually is. Based on that I'll pass.

I have heard a rumour that Hampson is the one we are targetting. Wouldn't think he was a second rounder IMHO.

What do people think of Hampson?
I actually reckon he is pretty handy. No Dean Cox, but certainly a big upgrade on the spud patrol at Punt Road.
How old is he?
