2000 Draft
« on: March 03, 2005, 04:17:16 AM »
How does our 2000 draft rate 5 years on - is this one rare one we got right?

This draft was where Riewoldt went No. 1.

25 Mark Coughlan
40 Chris Hyde
41 Andrew Krakouer (Draft choice 41 traded by Western Bulldogs for Ben Harrison)
55 Chris Newman
57 Steven Sziller (traded by West Coast Eagles for Mark Merenda)
69 Not utilised
Rookie Elevated Ben Haynes
Rookie Elevated Royce Vardy

Interesting isn't it, we've still got our first 5 draft picks on the list, that's a pretty good effort although Pettifer is very lucky to be there still.

Newman was a good get at 55.
And MT Sziller we got from the Saints not Wet Toast.

Agree RR. Compare that to the year before (Fiora, Poyas, Mills, Homewood, Zantuck, ...) where none of the blokes we drafted are still on our list and 2001-2002 where only Rodan and Schulz remain (excluding trades Staff and Johnson) :(. Now that Hyde looks like he is finally finding his AFL feet it's a pretty good effort to score at least 4 out of 6 picks in one draft with one of them a gun at full fitness.

Wasn't Hyde drafted in 2000, de-listed and then re-drafted in 2001 with pick 60 something?  :help ???

Makes Hyde's improvement and efforts all the more impressive IMO

That's right WP. Used pick 68 in 2001 (the one we got from the Roos for David Bourke  :thumbsup). I could be wrong but I think we told Hyde this was going to happen IIRC as we had to reduce to our list to a certain number in time for the draft.

Who were the picks from 9 to 24 that we could have selected instead of Pettifer? This draft was pretty succesful, but we still got Pettifer, lol.

Pretty average lot early on except for the obvious exceptions.

Daniel Kerr the standout out of the 10-24 lot. Kane Cornes probably next. Adam McPhee was drafted at 39. Graham Johncock at 67.

Turning the tables 15 clubs overlooked Cogs  :cheers.
