Hawthorn 2006.
« on: August 30, 2011, 02:59:33 PM »
Five years ago the Hawks made a very promising start to the year and were 4-1 after rd 5.

But before Jeff Kennett could start talk of a new football dynasty ,the Hawks won only 1 of the next 13 games and went from equal second to 14th (Hang on...I think I have seen that movie before)

The Hawks then won their last 4 games.....they beat the 16th ,15th,14th and 10th placed teams to finish off their season with 9 wins.

I could imagine the howls of discontent if we finished off this season beating Port,Suns,Brissie and the wounded Freo. ::)

The Hawks finished 5th the following year and were surprising losers in the semi final.

I believe they did pretty well the year after that too.

Long bow to draw but that's the way the club want to see it and market it.

Does anyone here think we are realistically are top 6 side next year and Premiership material the year after?

Bit far fetched.

Certainly not top 6 Tucker but top eight in 2012 has to be the goal I would think

It is the goal but along with our natural progression will also natural progression from sides like melbourne, North, Freo and Adelaide. All 4 of these sides could quite conceivably go past us next year with where their squads are at compared to ours. What happens if that takes place? Going to be very hard to make finals next year even if we do improve on this year.

Said it needed to be the goal; didn't say it was a going to happen

N0rt Melb wont improve - they are a joke of a club and their kids aren't that good and their "leader" is a selfish player who continually sooks  ;D

Melb - will go backwards  ;D

Adelaide - who knows with them  ;D

Freo - if they have a full list they'll be back in the fight for the 8

Win lose or draw top 8 has to be the goal next year I agree. No doubt about it. We have gone from 5.5 wins to 6 to 8.5-9.5 wins this year. Finals has to be the pass mark. If not you have to look at how many fall out of the 8 and how many will go passed us. Possibly Melbourne, Adelaide Nought.
Although finals is a pass mark continual development and improvement is the key also and it is that fine line that the club has to balance for 2012 to be a successful year.

I probaby am living in fantasy land here Tucker however I was just trying to illustrate the point that good things can happen after a few "meaningless" wins.

For the record I think we can make the transition to a "good ordinary side" in 2012 ....somthing like a hybrid of North/Essendon/Sydney.

Finals has to be the pass mark next year.

Yes finals or we might end up with an angry little silvered haired man as coach.
