Compo for GWS recruits announced
« on: September 13, 2011, 06:48:03 PM »
Adrian Anderson just said the compo for Scully will be same as what Geelong got for Ablett - level 1 (mid-first round pick plus another 1st rounder)

Compo for both Ward and Davis will be level 2 (first round pick)

Compo for Palmer will be level 3 (end of first round pick)

Here's the full ruling for those interested ...

http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/123360/default.aspx

Melbourne - Round One selection (Tom Scully)
The selection for Tom Scully may be activated by Melbourne after its round one selection in any one of the 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 NAB AFL Draft Selection Meetings. The selection will be immediately placed behind the Round One selection of Melbourne in that particular season. (I.e, should Melbourne earn the right for selection 12, the compensation selection would be number 13, if Melbourne earn the right for selection four, the compensation selection would be number five etc.).

Should Melbourne wish to activate the selection in the 2011 NAB AFL Draft, during the expansion-period Drafts, the selection would be placed at the end of Round One.

For the selection to be activated for the 2011 NAB AFL Draft, Melbourne will be required to notify the AFL of its intention to use the selection by Friday November 11, 2011.

For the selection to be activated for any of the years 2012-2015 in the NAB AFL Draft of that particular year, Melbourne will be required to notify the AFL of its intention to use the selection by the last Tuesday of that particular year, prior to the start of the Toyota AFL Premiership Season.

The club has the right to on-trade its compensation selection to another club.
If the club on-trades its compensation selection to another club, the selection may be used in that year's NAB AFL Draft Selection meeting, or in any other year up to the 2015 NAB AFL Draft.

Melbourne - Mid-Round One selection (Tom Scully)
The selection for Tom Scully may be activated by Melbourne at the middle of round one, after the round one selections for those clubs that have missed qualification for the finals in that year and before the round one selections of those clubs that have qualified for the finals in that year, in any one of the 2012, 2013, 2014 or 2015 NAB AFL Draft Selection Meetings.

The lodgement of the contract offer to Scully by the GWS Giants FC means the club cannot automatically select another uncontracted player from Melbourne.

Western Bulldogs - Round One selection (Callan Ward)
The selection for Callan Ward may be activated by the Western Bulldogs after its round one selection in any one of the 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 NAB AFL Draft Selection Meetings. The selection will be immediately placed behind the Round One selection of the Western Bulldogs in that particular season. (I.e, should the Bulldogs earn the right for selection 12, the compensation selection would be number 13, if the Bulldogs earn the right for selection four, the compensation selection would be number five etc.).

Should the Western Bulldogs wish to activate the selection in the 2011 NAB AFL Draft, during the expansion-period Drafts, the selection would be placed at the end of Round One.

If the club on-trades its compensation selection to another club, the selection may be used in that year's NAB AFL Draft Selection meeting, or in any other year up to the 2015 NAB AFL Draft.

The lodgement of the contract offer to Ward by the GWS Giants FC means the club cannot automatically select another uncontracted player from the Western Bulldogs.

Adelaide Crows - Round One selection (Phil Davis)
The selection for Phil Davis may be activated by the Adelaide Crows after its round one selection in any one of the 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 NAB AFL Draft Selection Meetings. The selection will be immediately placed behind the Round One selection of the Adelaide Crows in that particular season. (I.e, should the Crowss earn the right for selection 12, the compensation selection would be number 13, if the Crows earn the right for selection four, the compensation selection would be number five etc.).

Should the Adelaide Crows wish to activate the selection in the 2011 NAB AFL Draft, during the expansion-period Drafts, the selection would be placed at the end of Round One.

For the selection to be activated for the 2011 NAB AFL Draft, the Adelaide Crows will be required to notify the AFL of its intention to use the selection by Friday November 11, 2011.

The lodgement of the contract offer to Davis by the GWS Giants FC means the club cannot automatically select another uncontracted player from the Adelaide Crows.

Fremantle - End of Round One selection (Rhys Palmer)
The selection for Rhys Palmer may be activated by Fremantle at the end of round one in any one of the 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 or 2015 NAB AFL Draft Selection Meetings. The selection will be immediately placed after the selection of the premiership team of that season (which concludes round one), and any compensation pick under AFL Rule 6 (In 2011, each of the Gold Coast Suns, Port Adelaide and the Brisbane Lions will receive a selection under this rule).

In the case of two or more clubs activating an end of round one selection in the one AFL Draft Meeting, the club(s) that is (are) placed lower on the premiership ladder in that particular season, will be placed first in the selection order.

For the selection to be activated for the 2011 NAB AFL Draft, Fremantle will be required to notify the AFL of its intention to use the selection by Friday November 11, 2011.

For the selection to be activated for any of the years 2012-2015 in the NAB AFL Draft of that particular year, Fremantle will be required to notify the AFL of its intention to use the selection by the last Tuesday of that particular year, prior to the start of the Toyota AFL Premiership Season.

The club has the right to on-trade its compensation selection to another club.
If the club on-trades its compensation selection to another club, the selection may be used in that year's NAB AFL Draft Selection meeting, or in any other year up to the 2015 NAB AFL Draft.

The lodgement of the contract offer to Palmer by the GWS Giants FC means the club cannot automatically select another uncontracted player from Fremantle.

It would be in the clubs best interests Melbourne that is, to finish near the bottom IMO.

Could you imagine they finish bottom in 2012. Thats pick 1, pick 2 and pick 9 in the super draft. Huge!!

all for losing a guy who has played 30 games.

short term pain but i think quietly they gotta be happy with that

They could do it if there dream scenario of Viney being in care taker for the year while Mick has a year out of coaching before taking over happens.

Anything is possible when a team will tank.

It's ridiculous that Scully got the same compo as Ablett. GAJ is a Brownlow medalist, dual premiership player and a proven leader and matchwinner. In fact all the compo offered is way way generous except probably for Ward. Farmer couldn't get a game this year and Freo still get a end of first round pick  ???.

The weird thing for Melbourne is they now could be better off with Scully going. Tank next year and they could even end up with picks 1, 2, 10, 19 & 20.

tank next year and they may lose more quality players too.

Would dustin martin have turned down the GWS offer if he felt the club was undermining his efforts on match day in an attempt to lose?
