Surely a couple of easier games would be more beneficial for membership??

I think one win against a top 6 team would boost membership more that a couple of wins against bottom 4 sides.

Momentum, cant be underestimated.

If you have it crushed before you get started, it's very hard to gain it back again.

apparently Denham has just said we have a horror draw, play 3 of top 4 in first 4 weeks

Abit like this year.

Yep and this year we got what we requested

Eg We wanted the Pies at home early in the season and we got it  ;D

They probably feel its better to get the tough games out of the way earlier and then it opens up the draw for us to get on a winning streak and build momentum.

Or to get the wheels to fall off and out the way earlier so everyone can get to their sledging.

Three of the top four- the one out being Carlton. So make that 4 of the top 5 in 4 weeks.

Denham thinks Carlton will make top 4 next year so I'd guess the three will be Carlton, Collingwood (the Club would ask for those two as home games) and either Hawthorn or a trip to Perth to face the Eagles. We play Geelong in the NAB Cup so you wouldn't think we would play them early on thank gawd.

If we are winless after four rounds again then that's the season then and there  :-\. Alternatively if we miraculously pinch a win with sides preparations at different levels in the early rounds and get to round six 3-3 then you can still build momentum from there.

I dont believe the season is over if are 0-4 after 4 rounds.

It means we have a number difficult games out of the way and from then on we should have a reasonable draw.

If we have copped some shellackings it could be different though as that will put a big dent in the teams confidence, something that pro tankers dont put any credence in anyway  :P

Gee, as for worrying about who we play, when and where? Just bring it on!

I agree with Al, but if it does turn out zip and 4 then the season could well and truly be over by round 13/14. I know nobody really expected it this year anyway but at least it was nice having a glimmer of a season left as late as 18/19. Momentum would do wonders too. Dimma made a good point at about round 5 or 6 at a post game conference when asked what he thought of this years (2011) draw. He said that he preferred the challenging teams since it gives him/us a better idea of where we are and what we have to do.

x2 Ill back that
I was worried about the season after sitting through the first 4/5 games this year. But when you look at its not those games that really cost us the season, sure they hurt the confidence but losing to a lowly port, newcomers GC or a depleted bulldogs hurt more.

Plus you forgat ya? we have ze IVAN DRAGO now  :thumbsup :lol

I agree al we need to reach a stage where we are good enough that we don't need to worry about who we play, when and where.

Just on the 0-4 point. I don't think any club has made the finals from a 0-4 start in the AFL era and not since North in the mid-70s.

Richmond plays Port Adelaide in the final round.
Will interesting to see if it's home (likely Etihad) or away

Gut feel we will be travelling  ;D
If it's a home game it'll be at Etihad.

The match-up is AFL code for we don't expect Richmond or Port to make the finals so we'll play them on the Sunday twilight in the last round  :P.

Wouldn't call it a horror draw.
Teasing us again RFCO  ;D.

Playing GWS, Port, Ess, Bris twice and Swans & Freo at the 'G would probably be the best draw we could ask for. Potentially could win all 10 or at least win 8 or so given they are sides we have beaten the past few years even with the young and inexperienced side we've had. That would mean finding another 4 or so wins from the remaining 12 matches which would include the Suns in Cairns, North, Adel plus the Dogs and Saints on the slide.

Thats a bit surprising.  i'm sure that sides have made the finals after poor starts to the season, but they must have won at least one of the first 4 games.

The Saints were without a win after round 4 last season ;D ;D
They may have had a Draw and a bye in those first 4 rounds thou..... :lol
