McGuane to Brisbane

RICHMOND defender Luke McGuane looks likely to return home to Brisbane if a trade can be secured.

McGuane has played 84 matches for the Tigers (including 14 this year) but has strong family connections in Brisbane, with his brother expecting his first child.

The Tigers are understood to be open to making a trade with the 24-year-old.

McGuane was famously involved in an incident in Sydney last season with former player Ben Cousins.

McGuane and Cousins were suspended for a week over the incident.

In an interesting twist for the Tigers, another player involved in the same incident - Daniel Connors - is also a chance to be traded from the club.

Connors has had a troubled five years at the Tigers, including being suspended for eight matches in 2010 from the Sydney incident.

The other player involved was Dean Polo, who was delisted by the Tigers at the end of last year, before being picked up by the Saints.

McGuane would be a good fit for the Brisbane Lions, who need another key defender following the serious late-season knee injury to backman Brent Staker.

Connors, Mcguane, Jackson, Nason, Hislop, Taylor. This is exactly the type of crap we need weeded out of our club.

Edwards would be a nice icing on the cake.

Think in a week draft we'd want a 2nd round pick for McGuane. I'm sure they'll off there early Round 3 pick which would be a win for them more than us.
Go Tigers!

Brisbane have picks 9, 29, 30, 34, 52, 70, etc....

I'd be targetting one of 29, 30 and 34. The latter is possibly the most realistic and would still give the Lions three decent early-ish picks to draft with. Possibly that will end up being four if they get another first rounder for Mitch Clark wanting to head back to WA.

That would gives us picks 15, 34, 37, 55, 73, etc .... with possibly one going to appease Adelaide for Maric if we can agree on a player swap.

Surely someone at Brisbane would have laid down the law to Voss about trades.

If they take McGuane after taking raines the RFC should make donations to that poor club.

TBH I think most clubs will not want to be selecting players in the 50s. Its hard enough in most years to pick beyond 50 and with this years draft considered lacking depth ...

Daniel my dear dingbat, for the purposes of these trades, the potential trade bait will be known as excellent footballers with A grade potential.  Not just because we leave reference to our players as 'types of crap' to opposition supporters and Richmond haters, but because we don't want opposition supporters shouting the trade down before it happens.

If we pay most of his remaining year contract too it sweetens the deal. Hope there is an element of truth to this one. The quicker we get rid of these types the better - Id keep thursfield btw

Re: draft depth. Once again punters reading too much into what the media nuff nuffs have to say.

Quote
"The clubs are rapt with the depth in this year's draft," said Sheehan.

"The first two rounds (of the draft) into the mid-30s, it's very, very strong."

"After that there's 90 other boys there and there's not too many you would say haven't got a chance of getting through."

"They're an impressive group and I think there's going to be some absolute gems later in the draft for those clubs prepared to give a youngster a chance."

"I think there will be dozens of bolters."
