Since I live up the country I can't get to the Fan Forum night but here's something I prepared earlier:
The ongoing process of developing a coaching structure at Richmond invites interest.
During the course of the 2011 season the following have been thrown up:
- Wayne Campbell has finished the last year of a 3 year contract.
- David Newett has not been re-signed beyond 2011.
- Tim Clarke has not re-signed beyond 2011.
- Neil Craig resigned from Adelaide.
- Dean Bailey was sacked from Melbourne.
- Richmond announced 2 more development coaches were to be hired.
- Richmond announced Newett and Clarke would leave.
- Richmond offered Craig an assistant coaching position – he chose to join Melbourne as Director of Sports Performance.
- Ross Smith was appointed as a coach after leaving Hawthorn.
- Richmond offered Bailey an assistant coaching position – he chose to join Adelaide as Strategy & Innovation Manager.
- Mark Williams was appointed as a coach after leaving Melbourne.
My queries are:
If two more development coaches were required and Newett and Clarke were leaving, what steps have been made to source these four new development coaches since we have known about our requirements for some months at least?
If Craig and Bailey were considered possible assets, why were they not approached before the end of the season considering they were both unemployed/available at the end of July?
Was a review of our coaching structure performed in 2011 and did it conclude that we needed an experienced senior assistant and thus we approached Craig and Bailey?
In discussions with both, was any other position other than assistant coach discussed, since they both subsequently took jobs outside the normal coaching structure at other clubs?
Is Wayne Campbell being re-signed and if not, is his position being taken by either Smith or Williams?
Are Smith and/or Williams assistant or development coaches?
If they are both assistant coaches are we then moving to a different, expanded structure?
Does this mean we will still have four new development coaches or are Smith and Williams taking the two extra slots that were announced as development coaches?
Are we still going to employ at least two development coaches and, if so, what steps have been taken to employ them?
Given that we are required to employ an extra three people in the football department to meet minimum AFL standards, are these to be in any areas other than coaching?
