Occupy protests
« on: October 15, 2011, 05:04:37 PM »
Did anyone see these protests that have started. Why people in Australia are doing it makes no sense unless you want communism.  We already have massive social welfare programs that share wealth around. We also have  a universal health system that make health care equal.
America have nothing like we do and there top 1% hold alot more wealth compared to the rest of the country then our top 1% do here.

Thought the same. We have nothing to complain about here relative to other countries.

you should carefully consider what you are saying here tiger. Social welfare and Medicare are socialist policies. Communism is just a form of socialism.

On the other hand, the USA is the great bastion of capitalism.

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts,
Nor are your ways my ways,” says the Lord.

“For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are my ways higher than your ways,
And my thoughts than your thoughts."

al I know we are a very socialistic country Im not complaining about it.
Data even shows universal health systems are cheaper then American version of having it fully privatised through insurance.
Im just asking how much further do these protester's want the country to go? Communism?

OK got it.

the one in brisbane is just a copy of something the yanks recently had.

They actually don't want to turn to commies or anything radical like that, they just are sick of having their lives governed by large corporations.

Thats my point al. The yanks have a reason. There tax dollars bailed out banks and they also for wanting more from the wealth of there top 1% because have more then 99%.
Over there there the rich also pay less % in tax compared to an average worker. Even Warren Buffett admitted they could and should pay more that's why Obama's new tax bill is named after him.

Now these extreme lefty's here are using the yanks protest here. But they are forgetting we already have welfare and equal health services for all. So there calling for nationalisation of company's.

no they are not after nationalism of wealth. they are sick of the corporations influencing their lives because of the power they weild.

as they weild more power, the wider the gap in wealth. the wider the gap in wealth, the more power they have.

money talks!

A capitalist society in it's purest form, like any socialist model, ends up with a small elite and a large mass for the elite to utilise.

Channel seven news tonight showed the person on the microphone talking to the crowd demanding nationalisation of wealth. I'm only going by what the news showed of them calling for. In America corporations play alot more in politics then they do here in Australia. If anything I'd say unions play more in our politics currently then big business.

dont kid yourself on that. Unions like any political organisiation of any size are too busy infighting to match it with large corporations.

it's not just in politics that they influence our lives either.

oh, that sheila was saying about nationalising is different to what i read
http://www.news.com.au/about-100-turn-out-as-us-occupy-wall-street-protest-hits-brisbane/story-e6freoof-1226167349037

what in fact does she mean by nationalism of wealth anyway?

I think alot of them just want more for nothing to be honest.
Like I said we already have a generous welfare system in this country unlike America. So I can't see why people here are saying we need more equalisation of wealth.
Some experts are even saying we have a problem of 2nd generation of people growing up living off welfare and not even interested in working when reaching adult age.

Just looking at the article there facts are wrong to begin with

Quote
all the banks in the world have been bailed out, if the banks and corporates are too big to fail and need to be bailed out then they shouldn't exist in the first place

I don't remember once our government saying our banks are to big to fail and handing over billions of our tax dollars to them like they did in America. So there arguments here in Australia are irrelevant.

P.S The greens wouldn't like hearing people say this given inner city people like these people are there voter base.

Quote
Either the government change or we'll start our own political party and things will change, our elected representatives don't represent us
